Fujitsu Motherboard Flash BIOS Solved

Question

Hello,  So here it is, I would like to flash the BIOS of my motherboard, a Fujitsu Siemens D1331 (according to CPU Z) to benefit from the 2.53 GHz of my processor currently limited to 1.9 GHz by the motherboard.  However, when I go to the Fujitsu support site and download the BIOS file, I only get an .exe file named "FTS_FLASHBIOSUPDATEDISKD1331V406R1031331_406103_26305.EXE" which is a WinImage Self Extractor file. I unpack it with Winrar and obtain a .BIM file named "DISK.BIM". But I have no idea what to do with it! It is not bootable!  I found the BIOS flashing utility under Windows, but it only accepts BUP, OMF, and OCF files. I would like to avoid flashing it under Windows if possible. As a precaution, I have backed up the current BIOS (in BUP format).  I am desperate, I would finally like to enjoy my processor at its full potential! Thank you in advance for your responses.

"I go to the Fujitsu support site and download the BIOS file"  You should also be able to find the procedure to use for flashing there!!!  -- Because the manuals don't say everything...

I looked at it carefully and here’s what it says (in English):  Boot the system with the inserted Flash BIOS floppy disk. The FLASHBIO.EXE utility first reads in the BIOS Update file. Once the Flash Memory type has automatically been recognised, programming begins. The old BIOS Setup is deleted and overwritten with the contents of the BIOS Update file.  Basically, I need to insert my disk with the BIOS flashing file. The FLASHBIO.EXE (which I don’t have) will read the BIOS update file. The BIOS will be overwritten and rewritten.  But my floppy disk doesn't boot with the files provided by Fujitsu! I can't see where I could retrieve the correct files.

According to what I believe I understood ("The FLASHBIO.EXE utility first reads in the BIOS Update file."), FLASHBIO.EXE is contained in the BIOS flashing file... you must put the 'Floppy Disk' first in the boot device list! (if this is not already done)  -- Because the manuals don't say everything...

I have already tried to boot from the floppy disk with only the .exe file: it doesn't boot (message "remove the disk and press a key to restart")  Then I only put the decompressed file: same thing Then both together: nothing  Then I made a bootable DOS floppy disk: it works but I don't see how I can flash with it since there needs to be a .bat file that launches the installation.  Fujitsu is messing with us! Okay, the motherboard isn’t very young but still, if they provide a so-called file to flash the BIOS, there must be a way to flash this BIOS. On other motherboard models, all necessary files are provided!  However, when I backed up my BIOS, the file is in BUP format but I don't see where I could find a valid file in the same format...

Hooray !! I finally made it! Except that Windows still indicates that I have a P4 2.53 GHz processor throttled to 1.9 GHz... Grr what a disappointment! There might be a way to unlock it or is it simply the motherboard that doesn't support me? That would be strange though because in the changelog, it says "- Microcode update for Pentium 4 Processor and add support for 2.6 GHz CPU."  If you have any ideas, I’m all ears. Anyway, for those interested, here's the method I used to achieve this: I randomly launched the WinImage file from the floppy disk and there, miracle! A window opens offering me several options including "extract." So I extract the file, and it generates an IMZ file (compressed iso image). I download and install WinImage, browse the files contained in the IMZ image, and extract them (yes, a lot of extraction in the end!). Only one is useful to me, an OSF file that is compatible with the flashing program under windows "DeskFlash."  Thus, the program was able to update the BIOS.  Anyway, thanks for your responses Erwan031284!

One last bit of info: your CPU may be throttled... when it's not under load! It temporarily goes up to 2.6GHz during work, before quickly returning to 1.9GHz. It's a matter of heat and power consumption...  -- Because the manuals don't tell you everything... But not nothing either, huh!
