Updating my AMI BIOS Solved

Question

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I hope to find my happiness here

So, two months ago I bought a Packard Bell PC, specifically the IXTREME I7740 FR

I would like to update my BIOS to see if the restriction for overclocking the processor (I7 920 at 2.6GHz), which is blocked by the manufacturer, can be lifted. I just want to increase it to 3.2 or even more, depending on the cooler and the power supply

So, on the PB website, the motherboard is named Bulldog Plus Motherboard, so far so good. After further research, this board may also be named Packard Bell FX58 (which I see when I scan with ma-config.com)

Otherwise, the most important information for the update is the BIOS brand
for my case:

Well basically I want to overclock my i7 920 processor from 2.66 GHz to 3 GHz, not much more depending, but the BIOS is limited by the manufacturer.

So yes, it's normal that some BIOS do not accept certain OS or certain processors. Check with the vendor or the manufacturer.

At this point, I've changed my case to a Storm Scout, with an Asus P6T and a Noctua cooler, and I'm at 4GB Hz, subject settled.

So I will wait to overclock my i7, the motherboard being brand new, I prefer to invest in an SLI to better boost performance in upcoming games.

Yes, 1 in x16 and 2 in x8; for the 3rd, there's only room left for "single slot" GPUs... but enough for a dedicated PhysX 220.

I'm going to try not to crack under the promo for the Gygabyte oc 460GTX currently, to wait for the back-to-school season with:
- the possible 475GTX;
- or the 470 twin frozr or 470gigabyte "SOC";
- and the ati 6xxx in October...
It should be a bit more of a price war this fall between NV and ATI, with good deals to come I hope; especially since with SLI, the expected savings are x2!
