My PC keyboard is not working anymore! Where does the problem come from?

Hi everyone!

Since this morning, when I opened my PC (it was in hibernation), my laptop keyboard is no longer working!!! In the device manager, it says it’s working properly, but there's no response to typing!!!
Does anyone have any idea where the problem might come from?

In fact, I don't have a desktop PC...
However, I found an answer on the 01net forum: someone had exactly the same problem; they advised removing the battery and pressing the power button, then replacing the battery.
That's what I did, and oh, the miracle of technology, everything worked normally!!! As for why: it's a mystery!

Hello, I also had the same issue with a Vaio S13P from July 2012! Two days after delivery, brand new product, the keyboard was unusable even at boot! I removed the battery (you have to unscrew a cover) and once I put it back, it started working again! Very strange, I will keep an eye on it!

You might not have the same problem as others because removing the battery and connecting it to a power source worked for an ACER Aspire 3003LMi, so the solution and the problem are certainly not the same...
Does your keyboard not respond at all from the start or does it work until a certain point?
Try to explain your problem if possible; it will be easier to find a solution...

The keyboard does not respond from the moment the computer starts. It's an HP Pavilion dv8000. I've tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, but nothing. I've attempted to remove the battery and run it on power, but still nothing. Finally, the keyboard lights do come on (for example, the num lock light), which is quite baffling...
The problem occurred suddenly one day when I hadn't done anything particular, and now I'm stuck using the on-screen keyboard, which is not convenient at all...

Sorry, the subject is old but on Acer you have to press fn+f7 and your touchpad should work again. This might help others.

Hi everyone,

I have a nice problem with my girlfriend's laptop, a Toshiba MX40 with XP.
I just formatted the PC due to viruses, reinstalled everything, and then shut down the computer. Two days later, when we turned it back on, the keyboard is not responding anymore. Only the touchpad lock light is on (which is normally activated with Fn+F10), and it works.
None of the keys work except when I type:
W+Q then Q < appears and the light goes off
W+Q+A then A appears
W+Q+Z ---> Z and all the letters appear except B and N
I tried removing the battery as mentioned in other threads, but it didn't work. I reinstalled the keyboard driver, but that didn't help either.
Do you have a solution?

I think you have found it by now, but if someone else has this problem
Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use and uncheck the Filter Keys box!
Your keyboard will be usable again!

In my opinion, everyone's issue lies in a battery problem.
It would be interesting to test with a new battery since it runs very well on AC power.
I am currently repairing an Acer Aspire 3003Wlmi and I have the same problem as you: the keyboard and touchpad do not respond when the battery goes below 3% (critical threshold).
My conclusion is: since this laptop is 2 and a half to 3 years old and the battery does not charge beyond 4%, there can only be a problem with the battery...
I hope to acquire a new one to test it and share the results with you!

Hello everyone!
I have an ACER Aspire 3003LMi laptop that I've had for about two and a half years.
The keyboard is unresponsive and the touchpad as well.
I can't even turn off the laptop any other way than by pulling the plug.
The battery is completely dead. (The battery originally had a lifespan of only 1 hour and 30 minutes)
I'm currently working on my final project and really need this computer.
Have you found a solution?
I understand that the problem might come from the battery.
Do I need to buy a new one?
Do I have to buy an ACER brand battery?

So thank you all. I removed the battery from my Compaq Presario CQ71 and the keyboard started working again. I then turned off the machine and restarted it to check. It's working properly. This means that the battery indeed plays a role in these recurring failures. Thank you all, Frédéric

I think it's your battery that is dead... Read what I wrote above...
I noticed that the battery was dead because it couldn't charge more than 4% or 5%...
Check that, but if your laptop runs perfectly without the battery, the problem obviously comes from it...

I want to share my "discovery" with ALL of you...

The history of the battery seems to me to be just a pretext, let me explain:

It seems that you all have a key named Fn which allows you, in this case, to change the sound and other possibilities.

I noticed that by pressing Fn and, for example, O, I no longer get 6 but rather a o. I then tried to hold down Fn and press the Num Lock button, and there, oh miracle!! Everything was back to normal.

PS: I am a beginner in computers, this technique works for me, I can't do anything else for you.

Lol, if you can type a 6 or an O, it means your keyboard is responding, while the title of the topic is "Laptop keyboard not responding."
It's certain that if you start your PC with Fn, which actually means function, you'll only be able to use the keys related to Fn... It's like starting your PC with CapsLock on; you'll write everything in uppercase! Lol, there's no magic!
In fact, your problem isn't the same as others, and it seems to me that this solution was already provided on page 1, if I'm not mistaken...
