The .mdf and .mds files are image files created by Alcohol 120%
You can read them by mounting them on a virtual drive
or you can burn this image and read it on any CD/DVD drive

Matthieu

Create a virtual drive with NERO

the mdf files don't work with daemon
don't you know a good virtual drive that can read them?

The virtual drive is a CD or DVD reader that is not physical.
How to explain...
If you look at your PC, there is a floppy disk, CD, DVD reader... all these are physical readers.
The virtual drive allows you to read 'image' or virtual CDs or DVDs;
For example, take Nero when you burn, you choose the burner you're using, you can select, I believe it's the option to create an image if I remember correctly
a .nrg file is created
With software like alcohol120% or isobuster, you can create other CD/DVD drives and on each of these virtual drives, you can 'mount' images
There you go, I hope I was as clear as possible
Quick question, how did you get your .mdf file?
That would help me a bit more to solve your problem

Matthieu.

J'ai téléchargé un jeu à partir d'eMule et quand je l'ai décompressé, j'ai trouvé des fichiers MDF et MDS. Je veux savoir comment faire pour installer le jeu, s'il vous plaît, et merci.

I have the same problem as you regarding the downloading of a game... I'm not just looking to view the file, but to actually use it to install the game in question...
I look forward to hearing from you

Hello.
What will interest you the most is the .mds file because it's actually an image file of the CD that can only be used with Alcohol 120% but especially with Daemon Tool. The latter creates a virtual drive that can read this file. How to do it: _Start by finding this program (Daemon Tool or Virtual Daemon Manager), download it and install it.
_Launch it. There isn't a window; it runs in your taskbar.
_Right-click on the icon and click on Virtual CD-ROM, then on Set Number of Device, here you put 1 or 2 depending on the number of mds files (up to 4 at the same time!!)
_Right-click on the icon again (because the menu normally closed), then click on Virtual CD-ROM, and then on Mount Image, and there you will look for your file in the directory where you put it and click Open (or double-click on the file) it will open the file and you will be able to see its contents and at that moment either you start the autorun or you launch the install file (be careful if you downloaded your game across several CDs you must first redo the procedure with all the mds of each CD)

So I explained all this to you but I don't really understand too much because generally, the mds files are mainly used to be able to use the game without the CD because you must have downloaded (the game) in another format (.iso, .img, .nrg, or others)
Finally, to finish, I would say what you did is wrong because it's much better TO BUY THE GAME as it avoids this kind of hassle (not being able to read a file type)
There you go, if you have any questions don't hesitate: BUZZMIKE@HOTMAIL.FR

See you later!!!

MDF files are compressed files that you can decompress with software designed for it (I use Izark)
/!\ Winrar only works with .zip and .rar files.

Thank you for this information, Izarc is very effective and I recommend it to others. You just need to select the mdf extension in options/settings/file associations. When launching an mdf file, Izarc will open in a window allowing you to extract the files.

Dear internet users... I stumbled upon this discussion by chance and thought I would stop and see how you find solutions to this .mdf file or archive problem...
Indeed, all you have to do is change the extension to .iso and mount the image with Nero... it's that simple... no need to bother installing Alcohol or anything else... just our buddy Nero and that's enough...

Best regards

Hi Unimen,

Your manipulation seems interesting. However, I don't have Nero. Is it possible to use a decompression software like Al Zip? (I don't think so since it's not a compression issue!?). Otherwise, would I be better off downloading one of the free shares mentioned in this forum?

Another question: does anyone scan the files with antivirus/antispyware before installing?

Hi everyone..

I downloaded a game with an MDF file and an MDS file..
I’m using Daemon Tools and it did allow me to install the game!
At that point, I thought I was going to be able to play, but no!!
When I launch the game, there’s a disk verification that takes place and it tells me that an attempt to use emulation software has been detected and that I need to insert the original CD and disable the emulation software..
What should I do?? Thanks in advance.

Hello, the small problem is that for one of my games, I created my image and I have a .mdf and a .mds file. So far so good. I open Alcohol 120, I look for my images, and to my surprise, Alcohol cannot find the .mdf image. I tell myself it’s not too serious, I mount my .mds image, I launch the game, and it tells me to insert the CD. So now I don’t know what to do. I've been stuck on this for an hour. Two months ago, it worked on my old PC, and now it doesn’t. Do you know how I can fix this??? Thanks.

Thank you KpTaIn KArbS, your solution with izark is truly the simplest, most effective, and reusable since this software can decompress all sorts of formats and it's really easy. Available for free and in French on télécharger.com

Here is the translation:

"I have a problem with these MDF files. In fact, I have a game in 4 MDF files of 700 MB each, but I don't have the accompanying MDS file. What can I do? Please."

Hello everyone!!

I have the same problem as rub77 but with a DVD image I downloaded. I noticed that in the RAR there was only a .mdf file.

Can I still burn it or not??

Yes, exactly,
With software like "daemon tools," you can mount your image (even if it's just the .mdf containing all the data) as a CD drive (virtual, but in My Computer, it has all the characteristics of a real one).

When you launch your favorite burning software, you will choose the destination as the drive that will contain the blank CD and the source drive as the virtual drive that is the .mdf image mounted by "daemon tools."

There you go.

I have this problem, I downloaded a .mdf image but I can't find the corresponding .mds file,

so Alcohol 120% doesn't recognize it.

If I change the format, Alcohol emulates the DVD but Windows cannot read it.

So the question is:

Is there a way to create a .mds from the .mdf???

OR

can I do without the .mds

Thanks in advance

(I am not looking to burn the CD but to emulate it with the Alcohol 120% virtual drive)

As KpTaIn KrAbS mentioned below, Izarc works perfectly. You just need to select the mdf extension in options/settings/file associations. When launching an mdf file, Izarc will open in a window allowing you to extract the files.

I have a problem. I manage to install the game, but when I try to launch it, it tells me there's a conflict with the virtual drive.

Good evening, my problem has already been mentioned, but I haven't found any answers to help me fix it.
I followed all the instructions for daemon tools and I managed to install my game, but the problem arises when starting it. When I launch the game, a small window appears with the following message:

" Conflicts detected with the Software emulator disk "

And for more details, they direct me to this site: " https://sonydadc.com/solutions/managed-services/digital-services/ "

Please help me, I really want to play this game! lol

Hi Franck, I know your problem, you just need to disable all the emulation options, that's it ;)

Hello, pi-r

I had the same problem as Franck, I disabled all the emulation options, but it still doesn't work.
Every time I try to play, it asks me to insert the original CD.
If you could help me please.

Hello, I created an image of a game with Alcohol 120%, but I'm unable to read the mdf file. I mounted it on a virtual drive using Alcohol, but when I launch the game, it asks me to insert the original game DVD. I also tried with Daemon Tools, same issue!
I do own the original DVD of this game, but the goal was precisely to avoid using it to preserve it since I plan to sell it later. Can anyone help me?

Hello,

I have a huge problem! I downloaded a game from a forum and I got 1 mds file and two mdf files and an application file. From there, it's only problems. I'm told that I need to combine my two mdf files into one, but I don't know how to do it :s and I can't open my mds file in daemon tools, it says the file is inaccessible? If anyone could help me that would be nice, I'm really feeling depressed.

Hello,
All these explanations are very good, but my problem is the size.
I can decompress these files with winrar or ultraiso. But it's the final size. From 4 Giga 2, I end up with over 6 Giga. So it's impossible to burn on a normal DVD.
Is there a way to stay at the initial size?
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hello Sauea,
what kind of files did you get when you downloaded it?
What type, I mean?
