How to explain...
If you look at your PC, there is a floppy disk, CD, DVD reader... all these are physical readers.
The virtual drive allows you to read 'image' or virtual CDs or DVDs;
For example, take Nero when you burn, you choose the burner you're using, you can select, I believe it's the option to create an image if I remember correctly
a .nrg file is created
With software like alcohol120% or isobuster, you can create other CD/DVD drives and on each of these virtual drives, you can 'mount' images

Hello everyone,   one of my teachers whose old PC can't handle the latest versions of Windows that are too resource-hungry for it, asked me if I could find him a version of Windows 2000, which I managed to do thanks to the mumule...   little problem, the compressed file contains an mdf and mds file, well I won't ask what they are, as I can read, and it would be an insult to your previous answers to ask the question again. What I'm interested in knowing is whether I can create an installation CD from these files, since a CD image won't work during installation, considering that I will need to boot the computer, taking control under BIOS..... so....   moreover, no CD seems big enough to hold the two files which weigh a total of 715MB and some dust.....   whatever..... anyway, given the relative difficulty of the manipulations, I doubt my teacher is knowledgeable enough to manage it.... anyway, I’m interested in knowing....   thanks for your replies

MDF files are compressed files that you can decompress with software designed for it (I use Izark) /!\ Winrar only works with .zip and .rar files.

Dear internet users... I stumbled upon this discussion by chance and thought I would stop and see how you find solutions to this .mdf file or archive problem...
Indeed, all you have to do is change the extension to .iso and mount the image with Nero... it's that simple... no need to bother installing Alcohol or anything else... just our buddy Nero and that's enough...

Hello, I followed your instructions but despite that, I can't open the mdf file of the game The Sims 2. I installed Daemon Tools and by right-clicking, virtual CD DVD device mount image, it takes me to the page of the different game files. All these explanations are very good, but my problem is the size.
I can decompress these files with winrar or ultraiso. But it's the final size. From 4 Giga 2, I end up with over 6 Giga. So it's impossible to burn on a normal DVD.
Is there a way to stay at the initial size?

I renamed a .mdf file to .iso but now it doesn't show .iso anymore; when I try to rename it again, it appears as .mdf.iso (it doesn't show, but it's as if it does).

Hello,  I renamed the mfd file to iso, and indeed I can open it with WinISO; the image is bootable and weighs 650 MB.  But with Nero, when I want to burn this image, it weighs more than 700 MB and Nero doesn't want to burn it.   Do you have a solution or an explanation?  Thank you.

Hello everyone,  Here is my problem: I downloaded an MDF file along with an MDS file, being a good reader and attentive student, I followed your advice and mounted the MDS file with Daemon Tools, but when I'm in the computer to try to read this file with my virtual drive, it gently tells me that my file is not supported by Windows or that my CD is simply damaged... what should I do??? Hello, I also downloaded an MDF file of Supreme Commander and since it was 5GB and some dust, it didn't work with Ultra ISO. So I simply right-clicked and to my surprise, by clicking on "extract here," WinRAR took care of extracting my nice file. See you!

For you massilia-02, I suggest either finding a crack on your mule, or downloading another one with the crack, and please change P2P, drop the mule, it's a shit pit hihihi!!!!!!   Slayerrrrrrrrrr, for you, if you haven't ruined it, you should get the No-CD crack, which is often included, but with a little mishap, it may ask you for it again because it didn't work properly..........  For the others, sorry for not having enough time to help; although this isn’t really help I’ve given, but how should I put it, a little reminder...........lol   I'm just telling you to be careful with No-CD cracks, cracks in general, and if the mfs or whatever doesn’t work, try renaming the extension to .ISO, or maybe the file is simply dead (and yes, some people rip their game badly lol, and it only works for them, or they don't even try it)  And also, watch out for VISTA compatibility (it’s crap ^^)

Hello,  Greetings world, it definitely gets a reaction here with .mdf and .mds ^^ well of course if I'm here it's the same lol  So here I have had the happy opportunity to acquire a downloaded version of the game TimeShift, from one of my friends who knows a friend who knows ...... I'm clear, I think  So similarly I couldn't read my unzipped file with daemon tool (.mdf) so I found that strange and after a while I realized that daemon supports a file quite similar (in naming) called .mds. So I thought about forcing it to .mds (by renaming it: I don't know if it's reliable but nothing ventured, nothing gained ^^) so after this manipulation I tried and there was no problem, installation went smoothly, I was able to install the patch 1.1 without a problem and so it was all good I was playing (and I was loving it because it's such a cool game ^^) but recently it told me when I launched the crack that I had a problem with my emulation software. So I find that strange after it worked fine for at least a week. I should note that to play multiplayer I wanted to download patch 1.2, which I did. And strangely I can't anymore since then. So logically I would say that the patch messed things up but if someone could help me that would be great because I have to admit that it's really pissing me off to lose my save and config so thank you in advance to everyone.

Hello everyone! I stumbled upon this forum because I'm having a problem with a game that keeps crashing on me with "conflict with an emulation program"... blah blah!! To be honest, it's the latest Sims game, and since I didn't back up my saves, if I uninstall it, I'll lose everything!! But my downloader isn't willing to provide a decent crack. I quickly saw on one of the posts that if we burn the image with Alcohol 120% (something like that), it might work. But there are so many messages that seriously, I didn't have time to read everything. So if you could tell me if this process would let me bypass the game's security, that would be great! Hi everyone ^^    Uh... so my problem isn't really the same but it's another issue, let me explain.  So here it is, I got a game on U-Tor (you probably got it, I hope lol) it's 15GB but there are several games (they are sequels), so I haven't installed daemon tools or any other programs or anything like that, I don't unpack my Rar files, so I open the Rar file and then a bunch of other files appear, it's almost overwhelming. I see that there's the installation system, I click on it, it looks like it's going to install but no, not at all (don't ask me what it says, it's in Japanese so I don't understand at all). So to get back to the topic, to read the MDF files, when there's the list with all the other files, there are quite a few that are MDF and MDS files, so do I really need to use Daemon Tools or another program to be able to play my game? Hello everyone, I don’t want to come off as insulting, but I’ve been trying for 8 hours to correctly launch a game I downloaded (Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne). Let me explain: I installed both Warcraft III and its expansion The Frozen Throne, but when I try to launch the game, an error message says that I haven’t inserted the CD (even though I copied the files to the CD just like the real one). Additionally, with the downloaded installation files, there is also a crack file. In this, there is a War3.exe file that I used with Alcohol 120%, which created two image files in .mdf and .mds format. Then, I used Daemon Tools to create a virtual drive. It works, but when I launch the game, I get the same error message saying that I haven’t inserted the CD. So, back to square one.
