Hello,
I have a problem with my Canon MV 800 camcorder.
When I try to play my tapes, the camcorder screen (and the TV screen, by the way) is blue. There’s no sound either. I think it’s a playback issue and not a recording issue since my tapes are readable on other camcorders.
I should point out that the 3-year warranty just expired... of course.
If anyone has a solution, or the address of a Canon repair shop... I would appreciate it!
Thank you.

Self-cleaning cassettes will not help remedy the problem. Indeed, they only eliminate these parasites (called "auto tracking errors") that appear from time to time during playback. However, it seems that you have no image at all. In my opinion, this is a relatively serious issue. Feel free to contact me if I'm mistaken. Good luck nonetheless.

The problem is that just trying to play a tape with the camcorder’s screen doesn’t work. Otherwise, the recording works. I noticed that when I rewind or fast forward the tape, sometimes we see bits of film but nothing in normal playback.

Indeed, we tried a self-cleaning cassette and it didn’t do anything at all. If the problem is related to the electronics, I think finding a repairman will be difficult and the cost of the repair will be higher than buying another camcorder. Do you have any other solutions??? Or tricks?

First of all, I assume that your TV and camcorder are on the same standard (in this case PAL). Then make sure that your camcorder is in playback mode and that your television is on the correct channel (AV, EXT, etc.). There is no reason why there shouldn't be any images. If the problem persists, give me more information about the connections (RCA, S-Video, Scart...??).

There is no longer a shadow of a doubt. This is a problem related to the electronics of your camcorder. Take advantage of the warranty (if there is one) to send it to customer service.

Hello, it seems I read: "I should clarify that the 3-year warranty has just expired... obviously. So warranty = negative!! Already try running a cleaning tape for a few seconds..."

Unfortunately not Sophie. No trick to turn a jellyfish into bones... lol...
If you need any other advice on video (shooting, editing, equipment), don't hesitate at all. -
After a classic problem with a cassette being rejected by my Canon MV800, which I solved thanks to the forum, I now find myself in the same situation as Sophie... I noticed that when I press a bit on the mini DV compartment, the image partially appears for half a second... sniff! So maybe it's a loose connection...
Do you have any answers?
I certainly no longer have a warranty, of course...
Thanks in advance.
