Hello,
I am very sorry to revisit a question that has been addressed a thousand times: namely, the Money 2005 update.
I have read everything on the matter and have installed Money several times on different computers without any issues: automatic update... until about two months ago.
The problem now is that it seems we are no longer prompted to perform this famous update and it doesn't seem to be available during installation: what many feared seems to be happening, namely that Microsoft no longer appears to offer it during installation, unlike a few weeks ago...
WHAT TO DO????
THANK YOU ALL

Hum...
Forget downloading a version of Money 2008 TRIAL (English) to convert MNY->QIF, it doesn't work. Indeed, Money 2008 (English) claims that the mny file (2005 version with updates) is from a different "kind" of Money...
For now, I only see the solution I mentioned in post no. 9.
See you later.

Hi everyone,
I have exactly the same problem as all of you, namely that the update doesn't start after installation and creating a dummy file.
The worst part is that I installed Windows 7 RC on my PC last Wednesday and the Money 2005 update went smoothly that day.
I then installed Windows 7 RC on a laptop this weekend and now it's impossible to update.
After some research, I did find this somewhat reassuring article regarding this issue:

Updating Money 2005 - Service Outage
I've been informed that currently upgrading Money 2005 from its 'out of the box' version to the patched version (from version 14.0.x.0730 to version 14.0.x.1105) is currently experiencing problems, and so these upgrades don't currently work.
Microsoft is working on the problem. In the meantime you'll probably not be able to open your Money file if you've just done a clean install and need to use an existing file.
As far as I know, it is affecting all regions.
It seems that the problem is indeed with Crosoft and it's reassuring that they are working on it. I will put this on hold for now and do more tests on this new OS which I currently find more than acceptable.
Good luck to everyone even if the resolution seems to be in Crosoft's hands more than ours for the moment.

Good evening
I see that the problem is quite general
I spent the morning on the Microsoft France support chat where my interlocutor understood nothing
a real dialogue of the deaf!!!!!!
I am happy to receive your message which seems to give us a little hope hoping that we will have a follow-up
by any chance do you know if the latest versions sold also required this update??
let's keep in touch
best regards
patrick

Good evening Patrick,
I have no idea.
What I don't understand, however, is why Microsoft has never made a patch available to users of Money 2005 as a standalone download. We could have it once and for all.
What is strange is that it forces them to maintain a server in operation, just for reinstallations of Money 2005, a software that is starting to seriously date. I really don't see the point.
They can ensure updates, fine, but depending on the availability of their server to perform this update that allows access to your accounts is a bit heavy.
Let's just hope this issue won't last forever.

Well done for the trick, it works perfectly
I put everything on a USB stick and now I have money ready to be installed
AGAIN, WELL DONE AND LONG LIVE SOLIDARITY
IT MUST NOT BE VERY DIFFICULT TO CIRCULATE THE FILES IN QUESTION FOR THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE THE NEW VERSION OF MONEY

Indeed, I actually tried after your message to add a link with the update files but was moderated twice.
So I gave up considering the probably illicit nature of it....
That said, now that you have the update files, remember to use this trick to keep them safe.
...... and happy bookkeeping ;-)

A solution:
1) Go to the directory where the Money executable is located using File Explorer.
For example: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles\
2) Select the executable: "msmoney.exe"
3) Then instead of launching it by double-clicking, right-click -> "Run as administrator"
And there you go, it starts up and the update takes place.

Do you have another PC with the patched solution?
If so, do what another user suggested, of which I am copying the response
Hello everyone,
Good news, then!!! If you do not wish to wait and have a PC with an updated version of Money 2005, read on ;-)
Here you have http://moneymvps.org/faq/article/630.aspx a tip to apply this darn update, with the conditions being to have the installation CD or an extracted copy in a directory and a PC that has an updated version of Money.
You just need to extract the content of the CD into a directory you can name as you wish and replace the content of the money directory located in this extraction with the content of the MNYCoreFiles directory located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\ on the PC with the updated version.
I will detail what I did exactly last night that allowed me to reinstall Money 2005 (update included) to finally access my accounts. It should be noted that with this procedure, you are no longer dependent on Microsoft and this update to install a fully functional Money:
- Take the Microsoft Money 2005 installation CD.
- Copy and paste its content into a Money2005 directory (on your desktop, for example).
- On the PC with the updated and functional version of Money 2005, go to folder options and check the box "show hidden files and folders" and uncheck the one indicating "Hide protected operating system files."
- On this PC, take the content of the MNYCoreFiles directory and copy it into the money directory located in the directory you created initially (Money2005 on the desktop in my example).
Replace the duplicate files with those from the MNYCoreFiles directory.
- All you have left to do is launch the installation of Money by double-clicking on the install.exe file of Money2005 present on your desktop.
Once the installation is complete, you should have a fully functional Money with the update already included.
In any case, it worked very well for me.
Reset the folder options as before, if you wish, and keep your Money2005 directory safe (still from the desktop), it will allow you to reinstall Money2005 without needing Microsoft's server availability.
Good luck to all ...
Otherwise, someone just needs to pass you the famous MNYCoreFiles directory
If we can send it over the internet, I am willing to do it or upload it???
Keep me updated

It would be great if you could send it to your ISP's site (Free has such a service for large files and its competitors should offer the equivalent)
It is not necessary to be a Free subscriber to use it:
http://dl.free.fr/
You just need to enter the link provided by your ISP on this site.
Thank you.

Another thing Patrick, by clicking in Money 2005: ? -> About Microsoft Money -> License Agreement, the license agreement is displayed.
In paragraph No. 4, you can read this:
So, once installed and properly configured, I recommend blocking via the firewall the internet connection of Money 2005 to ensure the confidentiality of your data.
Best regards, Greg.
In paragraph No. 4, you can read this:
4. ACCEPTANCE OF THE COLLECTION OF INFORMATION FOR INTERNET SERVICES. The software contains features that allow a connection via the Internet to Microsoft's computer systems. You will not receive any separate notification informing you of this connection. You may disable these features or not use them. These features send information to Microsoft that may include, among other things, account numbers, financial transactions, beneficiaries, budget limits, and alert settings. By using these features, you consent to Microsoft collecting this information. Accounts, the portfolio, due dates, and the budget are part of these Internet services. Yes, you're right, I'm getting off topic. No matter how hard I look, I can't find anything... In my case, (Money 2005 WITH the fatal update), I can export my data in QIF format, so that I can recover it in case I need to do another installation of Money 2005 (WITHOUT the update).
But for your current situation... I see nothing. For now, it seems that the best option is to contact Microsoft customer support, but I know that it's not easy to speak with a qualified person.
I'm still looking, I haven't forgotten about the problem!
Talk later.

Well, I have some news.
I tried the QIF conversion, and it works. Let me explain.
With Money (MAJ=update performed), I export my account in QIF format.
With Money (SMAJ=no update performed), I import that account.
I do this for each Money account.
It works perfectly. The only downside is that you need to find a computer with Money 2005 and its update at all costs.
Keep me posted. Bye.

Hi everyone,
I'm in the same boat as you since I reinstalled my PC... 7 years of data lost, thanks Microsoft!
Greg24's solution gives me an idea: isn't there a program that can convert a .mny file to a .qif file (besides Money of course... heh heh), so I can recover my data and transfer it to another accounting software?

Good evening everyone.
First of all, my message does not solve the issue of the unavailable Money 2005 update at this time. However, I would like to indicate how I managed to revert my Money 2005 file to its state before the update. This may be useful to others...
With Money 2005 + update, I exported each account in QIF Relative format.
Then, using a PC emulator like Virtual Box, I installed Windows XP and Money 2005 without its update.
After transferring all the QIF files to the virtual XP, I created a new Money file with only one account (for example, a checking account and without adding anything in it!). I import the first QIF account. At that precise moment, and if you have made transfers between accounts, Money suggests creating the new account in relation to the transfer. So far, so good. The only catch is when you import another account where there are still transfers; Money adds an operation. If you made a transfer from account A to account B, when importing account A, it will display an operation in each account, logically! But when you import account B, it adds the transfer operation. As a result, the operation appears twice, and you have to delete one.
Once this is done, I compare between the two versions of Money to see if all the accounts match, of course!
I save my Money file (without the update), back it up on a USB stick. I uninstall Money 2005 WITH the update, reinstall it, and block it with my firewall to prevent the update from occurring, if it returns, and also for the reasons I mentioned in a previous message.
This way, I can retrieve my Money file! And if I have to reinstall my workstation someday, my file version will always be effective!
To conclude, and I think you've understood, I will NEVER reinstall this update!! to ensure that I always have a valid Money file that is compatible with my version of Money 2005 software.
To each their own, cheers.
Greg.

Hi everyone,
Good news!!! If you don’t want to wait and you have a PC with an updated Money 2005 version, read on ;-)
Here you have a tip at http://moneymvps.org/faq/article/630.aspx that allows you to install that pesky update, with the conditions being that you have the installation CD or an extraction of it in a directory and a PC with the updated version of Money.
You just need to extract the content of the CD into a directory of your choice and replace the content of the money directory located in this extraction with the content of the MNYCoreFiles directory located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\ on the PC with the updated version.
I’ll detail what exactly I did last night that allowed me to reinstall Money 2005 (update included) to finally access my accounts. It’s worth noting that with this procedure, you are no longer dependent on Microsoft and this update to install a fully functional Money:

Anyway, it worked really well for me.
Put the folder options back like they were before, at least if you want to, and keep your Money2005 directory (still the one on the desktop) safe, as it will allow you to reinstall Money2005 without needing the availability of the Microsoft server.
Good luck to all...

Hello,
I understand that you managed to keep your patched version of Microsoft Money 2005 (1105). Unfortunately, I don't have that luck. Could you, by any means, provide me with your patched version so that I can use my Money backup (9 years of banking and stock accounts)?
Perhaps with a web page, I could retrieve an .ISO file of your patched CD. Or if you have an FTP server.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Philippe Renou

I used the method recommended by "PatFromTls, on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 6:46:30 PM" and it worked perfectly, so now I can install Money as many times as I want, everything works fine, I no longer need Mr. Crosoft! The only difficulty I encountered was showing the hidden folder; my computer refuses to display hidden folders, but I worked around the issue with the explorer!

For me, it's still not working; I still can't install the update even though Money 2005 detects it. Message (update impossible, internet connection problem or free disk space less than 100 MB.
Which is not the case.
Can you help me? After a reinstallation of my PC, I can no longer open my old Money file, and I'm afraid of losing all my old data.
Thank you in advance.

Good evening,
After installing Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit, I had to reinstall MONEY 2005, which I have been using for a long time to my TOTAL satisfaction.
At first, the update didn't work, so I came to this site and read your exchanges with interest.
I tried to implement GREG 24's solution, without success (I'm probably not very skilled..).
Then I clicked on the "SAMPLE" file, and the update started immediately.
Everything is working perfectly! and at "HIGH SPEED", the 64 BITS helping.

Good evening, I have been struggling for 3 days because I had to format my hard drive and since then it's impossible to restore my Money backups, and I can't connect to the internet to update Money 2005.
My son just found your chat, one day earlier I could have downloaded this file.
Could you please put it back online because I have all my accounts on my unusable backups for now.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hello Dourik,
having the same problem, I tried to recover the file on Free but I get a message saying "corrupted file", so I'm still at a standstill.
Do you have another solution?
Thanks

Good evening Patrick63,
thank you for the new link, unfortunately reaching 85 Megabytes of loading, the same message as before that the compressed file is not valid or is damaged.
I really believed in it.
If you have another solution otherwise thank you anyway.

Hello Patrick 63,
It seems that you are the only one who has the patched version of Money 2005, Dourik's version doesn't work. Is it possible to put it back online, even for just a few hours, so that I can download it? I'm really in a bind and I fear that I won't be able to recover my Money 2005 data after installing Windows 7. I hope you're still on this forum, and thanks in advance.

Good evening Patrick,
I have restarted the transfer and this time it went through (phew).
However, I simply executed the install.exe file and everything is working normally, I retrieved my backup (except for the stock market updates (but that hasn't been working for a long time)). By the way, if you know how to get this update working again, it used to happen automatically when launching Money, but now nothing happens even manually.
Thank you very much.
Best regards.

Good evening Patrick,
I tried again and it worked this time.
However, I simply launched install.exe from your email.
And it works.
Thanks again
Best regards.
P.S.: I still have a problem that I had before; if you have a solution: I can no longer receive automatic stock updates (it hasn't worked for over a year).

It only offers the stock quotes update now... but there's no way to get that famous update!!!
An interesting question would be to know if the latest CD versions sold were already updated versions and therefore could do without that famous update...
Then it would just be a matter of finding a more recent CD...
I will keep you updated if I have any news.
