Hello,
I can't install Java on my PC. I've repeatedly downloaded the installation file from the official website, but even though the installation progress bar is still empty, it stops: "Installation failed - the wizard was interrupted (...) You can complete the installation at any time by running the installer again." However, when I restart the program, it starts over from the beginning (since apparently nothing has been installed) and stops again at the same point.
Thank you in advance, I have been facing this problem for several weeks now (well, I initially thought I might be able to do without Java!...)

Good evening n0e,
Try with this program: http://www.libellules.ch/dotclear/index.php?post/2008/07/13/2689-javara
You need to disable UAC first and maybe the firewall and antivirus too.
See you later!

Try installing the base version: download JDK6: https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/oracle-java-archive-downloads.html
If that works, you can do the updates afterwards.

This time, the JDK installed completely without issues, but when quitting, instead of opening the README file, it displays an error message stating that this file is missing.
The software is apparently installed: they appear in the program management panel with around a hundred Ko each. The two new programs JRE and JDK are functioning normally, but the JRE I had tried to install earlier unsuccessfully is still here (despite JavaRa); I can ask the computer to uninstall it, and it seems to start but stops without a message.
And although the software seems to be installed, they do not work during online tests.
...any idea?!

Moreover, access to the Java file in Program Files is denied to me.
We've got something here, right?!

I don't really know, first of all, why did you want to install Java, it should already be there, and how long has this been going on?
See you!

No, it's a new PC so Java wasn't on it. I tried to install Java for the first time a few weeks ago because I needed it for certain applications on the internet. The problem is that the first time I tried to install it, I blamed the failure on something else (I can't remember what now...) but once that other issue was resolved, the problem persisted and that's when I gave up.
Hello,
I would start from scratch. Uninstall all Java, then use CCleaner to remove all residues. Next, download the latest version of Java:
https://www.java.com/fr/download/
For installation: Right-click on the file, choose "Run as administrator", accept, and so on.
Good luck.

Uninstall Java by going to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, try to uninstall them. If it doesn't work, take JavaRa, choose to remove old versions, and in other options, check everything and run it. Then, check in Add or Remove Programs if Java is still installed, if not, clean with CCleaner and try to reinstall.
Go to the Java website and search for installing the Windows XP/Vista module, that might be what you are missing, Windows Package Installer.msi
Good luck.
Good luck.
I tried to install Windows Install Clean Up and now I'm facing almost the same problem as with Java: the software is seemingly installed, but when I try to launch it, it seems that Windows restarts the installation agent and then nothing happens. The difference is that I can then uninstall it normally. But maybe there is a connection?
Uninstall Java and check that it's no longer in the programs, then run CCleaner. After that, try to reinstall the latest version, hoping this time it works.
I forgot to tell you not to install the Java you downloaded. Go back to the site and choose the Java that installs offline. Download and install it. It seems that Vista is fussy.

But the problem is that I can't uninstall Java! Neither with the Windows utility, nor with CCleaner, nor with JavaRa... But after all, the installed version is probably fine, but I don't have access to it: no way to uninstall it and no way to access the files. Is there a trick to unlock that?...
Thank you for your help anyway!
PS: so far, the versions of Java that I've tried to install are indeed the "offline" ones.

You mention that you do not have access to Java. Have you checked in the Program Files folder to see if you have access to that directory? If so, look in the readme text file and reinstall the version that is indicated. Then, you can install the latest version offline. If not, an upgrade or repair with the Windows Vista CD would be the solution.
I have exactly the same problem as you n0e, on a Vista as well...
The difference is that I have no Java files in Program Files... the only thing that remains of Java is a program that I see in Add or Remove Programs and which is impossible to uninstall ><
Well, I'm not adding much to the topic except to point out that you're not an isolated case!

Hello ptts,
You might have the same issue as n0e, but you have nothing in program files. Possibly an advantage, no conflict with a failing new installation. If you want to install the latest version of Java, you need to install the offline version.

Could it be the Windows installer causing the problem? The repair could have been done with the CD, but you don't have it. So, we can try a repair through the command line: start, run and type: cmd and OK. Then type: msiexec /fa and hit enter. After that, try installing Java offline.
Hello,
If the problem is not resolved, you can try this:
With Windows Clean Up, manually remove anything related to Java from the Windows Installer list.
Then reboot in safe mode, go to start, run and type regedit. Delete all Java entries you see under the following keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT / in this long list, very long!
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software
HKEY_USERS/S-1.5.21../Software
Restart, run CCleaner, and try to reinstall Java offline.
Good luck.

After a few months during which I had set aside my computer issues due to lack of time, I'm back because... nothing works, I can't reinstall Java, despite your advice.
But I have another lead: I now can't reinstall QuickTime either! It had been installed properly for several weeks (I've only had my PC since January), but an error message informed me that it was no longer installed... Indeed, when trying to open the software, the computer claimed it was a shortcut to a missing or moved application. No way to access the base files: access denied, just like with Java.
I uninstalled the software, no problem, no trace of it -unlike Java- then reinstalled without any error message. But the computer continues to claim it isn't installed.
If you understand any of this, I would be really grateful!

Thank you for your response. I deleted and re-downloaded the installation file with the JavaRa software, disabling UAC, antivirus, and the firewall, but the behavior is the same: the installation stops with the same message...
