DVI-HDMI or HDMI-HDMI. Which is more efficient? Solved

Hello, I would like to connect my PC to my TV, so I would like to know if there is a significant difference in display quality between a DVI/HDMI cable and an HDMI/HDMI cable.   I suspect that HDMI/HDMI is more efficient, but I would like to know if it is significantly better or not, like whether the quality of the DVI/HDMI cable will be closer to HDMI or S-Video... To put it simply, DVI is more than sufficient for transmitting a video stream; HDMI won't perform any better. The difference is that it also carries audio in addition to DVI. P.S.: The quality (and thus the price) of the cable can have an impact over long distances (e.g., 10m).

Hello Yes, it's the quality of the cable that really makes the difference, but why compare HDMI to DVI? Computers often don't have HDMI, as it's more common on audiovisual devices (TVs, DVD and Blu-ray players, and now also some computers, finally!). There are also DVI>HDMI adapters and vice versa for those who only have that. You were also correctly informed about audio, which needs to be transmitted separately with the computer. By the way, haven't you noticed the SPDIF output that isn’t used much anywhere except on computers? Another one that will be forgotten... PS I use the HDMI cable sold for the PS3, and it’s very good quality (a bit stiff though), otherwise there are more expensive options Cheers

Thank you, I looked and on my PC I only have a VGA port (my screen), a DVI, and an S-Video (currently connected to the TV, a 32-inch LG) where the image is bad. I have a friend who has the same TV as me and a laptop with an HDMI port, and he connected his TV to the PC via HDMI-HDMI, so I wanted to know if I would get the same quality with my DVI-HDMI as he does. As for the sound, there's no problem; the TV has a jack input that goes with one of the HDMI ports (I think they figured people would connect a device via DVI). Re-Hello What are you watching on the computer connected to the LG TV? Because be careful with the television reception quality via the computer; the tuners in the TV cards are not very sensitive at all. If it's a video like a DVD, that's not normal because your computer should be excellent over the S-Video connection; that's what I successfully use A++
