Question

Hello,
my Dell PC running XP won't start anymore; it displays a black screen with "diskette drive 0 seek failure" and prompts me to press F1 to continue or F2 to enter the setup.
If I press F1, my PC hangs after the Windows XP welcome page and shows a blue screen instead...
I am desperate; can you help me out?
I should mention that prior to this, I was trying to remove a virus that was displaying pop-up windows along with messages saying "warning" and "you have a security problem."

Solution "Diskette drive 0 seek failure"

Access the system setup program by pressing the <f2> key at startup.
Press the <down arrow=""> key to highlight Diskette Drive A: (A: Drive), then press the <enter> key.
Press the <right arrow=""> key once to highlight NOT INSTALLED.
Press the <esc> key.
Press the <down arrow=""> key to highlight Integrated Devices, and press the <enter> key.
Press the <down arrow=""> key to highlight Diskette Interface.
Press the <right arrow=""> key once to highlight OFF.
Press the <esc> key twice.
Press the <enter> key to save changes and exit (Save Changes & Exit).</enter></esc></right></down></enter></down></esc></right></enter></down></f2>

I also have that issue,

at first I wanted to see what would happen if I set a user password on my Vista (DELL) in the BIOS thing.
Then I removed it and now, when I start it up, I get the "diskette drive 0 seek failure" message asking for F1 to continue or F2 for setup.

I press F1 and it works, but how can I remove this annoying message at startup?

I think I found the trick...

1 > "diskette drive 0 seek failure" is the equivalent of the French "lecteur de disquette 0 échec"

This implies that I have activated this device but it cannot load it (or that there is no floppy disk drive). Previously in "Computer" (My Computer), it did not show the "Floppy disk drive (A:)" icon. Now it does. I double-click it and it tells me "insert a disk into the floppy disk drive," so there is nothing inside. I didn't even know that floppy disk drives still existed under Vista.

So there has been a change.

Can someone tell me how to remove the message at startup?

I have a Dell computer (I can't remember the model) that's been around for about 2-3 years, and one day the famous message "diskette drive 0 seek failure" appeared. Since then, I haven't been able to access Windows. You might tell me to scroll up or look at other topics related to this problem, but of course, I've already done that. I’ve tried everything and nothing has changed; a black screen appears, the fans are running, but the only thing I see is an endless black screen (after hitting F1 of course).
