How to Scan with Epson Stylus SX400.

I've also struggled to set up my printer and then use the scanner. I just managed it. Phew! I'm not very tech-savvy, and maybe what follows will help you.
A/You can go through the control panel to scan.

B/If you want to use the Epson software, you need to:
1-Turn on the printer
2- Open MFP Manager ---> printer icon in the taskbar
3-Select the printer from the list of servers (see page 8 of the setup guide provided with the printer)
4-Connect the printer (mine disconnects automatically if not used, apparently a default setting) --> choose the printer and click on "connect"
5-Apparently, for the first use, you need to go to the start menu --> all programs --> Epson --> epson scan --> choose "Epson scan configuration"
---> Choose "local" --> the scanner appears as "ready"
7-Place the document to be scanned on the glass
8-Open the Epson scan software --> scanning can be done
Each time you want to scan, you need to connect your printer via MFP Manager or at least check if it is connected.
Then go directly to step 7.

Method to scan a text (Word) document and place it in a folder other than "images" on Windows:
-Start
-Programs
-ABBYY Fine Reader 6.0 Sprint (which was automatically installed on the computer when setting up the Epson Stylus SX400 printer with the CD provided at purchase)
-just follow the instructions provided by Epson in the chapter "converting scanned documents to text."

Devices and Printers >
Right-click "Start Scanning"
You may have a checkbox "separate items" or something similar.
