Hello,
In installing MS OFFICE 97, OUTLOOK does not run. Here is the startup error message:
"Cannot create the file SYSTEM.MDW. After installation, please restart your computer, and run the workstation administrator to run this application (-1011)."
I do not understand the concept of a workgroup and I can't resolve this problem.
Could someone please help me?
Thanks in advance,
Sylvie

Same problem under XP SP3 when trying to install Office97 and wanting to use Access.
If a solution exists, I’d like to know it as well -
Hello everyone,
Being on Windows Seven, I also ran into the same problem as you and by tinkering I found a solution.
First, if wrkgadm.exe does not exist, go to the CD installation directory and copy it to "C:\Windows\System32".
(on the CD, it is located in the directory ...\OS\SYSTEM
Then open SYSTEM.MDW present in "C:\Windows\System32".
Once done, press 'create...'. Click "OK".
In the next window, click 'YES' and point the target again to the system32 in C:\Windows.
That's it.
See you. -
something that worked with XP Pro:
uninstall Office 97
copy the system.mdw file from the working version of the software
on a PC with XP
paste it into System32 of the XP Pro version
install Office 97 (same software version as under XP)
in standard mode and do not check the server box
the installation for me completed
launch Access - in principle it should work - and my databases work normally
then install the add-ins not installed in the standard version
operation carried out today, I will see as I use it if there are any issues
good luck to everyone -
UP !!!
Hello everyone, if anyone knows the solution, I’m also interested, I’m experiencing the issue on an Access 97 installed on XP SP3!
Have a good day -
