Hello to everyone reading this message and trying to help me.
I have a PC running Windows XP Home Edition with SP1 (Config: P4 1.7GHz, Maxtor 20GB HDD, 512MB DDR RAM ...).
Yesterday while I was using this same PC, it crashed badly (it was while I was writing my internship report with Word...), unable to do anything, I ended up closing Word with taskmgr.
The bad surprise came after rebooting; I encountered a ton of errors upon entering Windows: I no longer had all my icons on my desktop, error messages mentioned something about restoration (Restore {......} - {......}....).
So, I rebooted again by pressing F8 > Last known good configuration. It started grinding for a very long time. After about twenty minutes without any progress, (that's when I think I made my mistake), I rebooted it.
And since then it boots correctly, but when starting Windows BAM blue screen with error 0x0000007B (0xF894D640, 0C0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).
I've tried quite a few things, including CHKDSK which indicated it could fix errors mentioned in the error message (except that with the Windows recovery console, I don't have the /F option as indicated...), or repairing Windows but nothing works, I always end up on that blue screen.
So I'm here to ask for your help (I really don't want to format unless it's absolutely necessary because I have important data on my HDD), please.
Thank you in advance for your replies and your help.

Hi there :-)
Try a repair with the XP CD:
*quote from ?? I can’t remember which site: To repair a Windows XP installation:
Start the computer from the XP installation CD and follow the various steps.
At the first choice between Installation and Repair/Recovery, choose Installation.
Continue the installation until the window informs you that an already installed version of XP has been detected.
Select Repair.
The repair/reinstallation process of missing or corrupted elements will then begin.*
First, give that a try - with a bit of luck.... Enjoy!
