I had a problem with my computer (unable to log in, it closes as soon as it's opened) and as advised in the forum to solve this problem, I have to reinstall Windows XP Home.
The problem is, I can't find my Windows XP product key.
Please help me how I can retrieve it without going through C:

Yes, but I bought my computer disassembled and I can't remember where the key was. I searched inside the computer to see if there was a sticker stuck somewhere, but I found nothing.
However, on the back of the Windows manual, it says it should be glued to the PC.
So this message is also addressed to everyone who bought their computer as a kit from Surcouf (how is the key given, stuck or?).
Or perhaps another solution could be from the BIOS.

If you want to recover your Windows XP key: do as follows:
-turn on your PC, as soon as it starts, repeatedly hit the F8 key on your keyboard (do it as soon as your computer turns on, if it makes beep beep sounds, it's normal, it's because you are hammering F8)

-Now, you'll arrive at a menu, choose "Safe Mode with Networking"

-Windows will start, close the annoying window that says you are in safe mode

-log in as the administrator, or another account if there isn't one

-go online and download Aida

-Install Aida 32 and launch it.

-Go to "Operating System", then again to "Operating System" and find the line "Product Key"

Magic! your Windows key is right there!!

You just need to copy it and keep it safe.

It might be possible, but I don't know how... However, if your Windows doesn't start anymore, what use would it be to find the Windows key???   You say you know the manipulation to do? What is it? If it's: booting from the XP CD and instead of choosing "install" you choose "repair"? But I don't think there's a need for the key... (unless I'm mistaken...)     Another solution: boot the computer normally, and just after the BIOS screen disappears, press the F8 key on the keyboard (several times, quickly in succession). This allows you to choose (among other things) Windows Safe Mode. Try it, if it works, recover your key. Otherwise, personally, I don't see any other solutions than switching to Ubuntu, backing up your files, and reinstalling Windows...   --Windows is not a safe environment, you are never safe from a success.
