Wireless technology has become part of your daily life, whether you're listening to the radio, communicating via your mobile phone, or using your laptop on the go. But are you really satisfied with the wireless performance of your laptop? Regardless of your system's wireless configuration, the strength and stability of the signal are determined by a single factor: antenna design.
Acer has been creating quality wireless products for years, and its recent research into innovation has led to the next generation of wireless connections. Acer SignalUp technology, incorporating the four innovative designs outlined below, will transport you into a new era of reliable wireless freedom.
An effective PIFA antenna
Acer's SignalUp technology uses the most effective type of antenna available on the market - the PIFA (Planar Inverted-F Antenna). This antenna creates an extremely uniform 3D signal sphere through its inverted F structure, generating an equidirectional signal field. Compared to other common two-dimensional antenna types, such as IFA (Inverted-F Antenna) and MLA (Meander-Line Antenna), the 3D signals produced by the cubic structure of PIFA-type antennas offer twice the surface area of other antennas, ensuring the highest levels of antenna efficiency for increased transmission and reception.
The PIFA technology is a proven compact antenna technology that is currently used in mobile telephony.
As with mobile phones, the wireless performance of laptops largely depends on the antenna used. With Acer SignalUp technology, the equidirectional signal sphere generated by the PIFA antenna ensures an impeccable wireless connection.
Wireless performance validated by the Acer RF lab
Acer has the advantage of being the only computer manufacturer with its own RF (radio frequency) laboratory in Taiwan, where its wireless products are built according to the strictest quality control standards, both in manufacturing and testing.
The severity of these performance tests means that Acer's SignalUp technology is characterized by extreme quality and exceptional reliability. -

Thank you because many of my friends tell me that Acer is worthless and breaks all the time. Have you had problems with it?
-
Never had a problem.
And yet I use it every day, several times a day, just opening and closing, and I've never had a breakage.
Moreover, I bought 2 Acer for my children.
My next laptop will also be an ACER.
Here at work, among my colleagues, it's 80% Acer. -
Thank you very much, I'm reassured. By the way, is your Vista and do you have 2 GB of memory?
-
I always had XP with 1GB of RAM, but on my two older Acer computers, there is Vista and I had an additional 1GB added to have 2GB.
To reassure you, I would say that in addition to my two older kids, I have a 4-year-old daughter who uses my PC to watch her DVDs; she does it all by herself.
One day, I found my 2-year-old on the table and he was standing on my closed PC, and the PC didn't get damaged at all.
Since the little ones are not always gentle, Acer is very sturdy, as you can see. -
Wow, that's really impressive! I'm glad to know that it's solid and that she is able to do it all by herself at just 4 years old, lol.
Back to the specifications, I just bought it about a month ago and everything is going very well. I have 2 GB of memory and Windows Vista.
I'm in Quebec, how about you?
P.S. Did you have a problem with the webcam? Because mine, the software is not working anymore.-
It's not that solid; I work in a high school and their lifespan is shorter than that of an HP or a DELL...
What I would say is that they are good "use and throw" computers...! Indeed, certain parts don't last as long as on other devices. But as I tell my friends, if you take care of it, it will last you a long time, and for the price you pay, you really get your money's worth...
So there are better options, but they're more expensive... for similar performance, I have DELLs at $800, HPs at $750, and ACERs at $399... so I can put two in a classroom for the price of one from DELL. However, after 2 years, I have had to replace parts on 2 out of the 5, and the other 3 haven't had any issues. User behavior plays a big role...

I am in Belgium
I don’t have an orbicam, it’s an Aspire 5100, yes, but the exact number is 5101AWLMi and it didn’t have a built-in webcam.
Haven't you tried to find the driver for this cam on the internet?
To tell you what I’m working with
NOD32 2.7 antivirus
Malwarebytes 1.28 anti-malware
Spybot 1.62 for other nasties
PCTOOLS 4.0 as a firewall
Windows Defender.
Never had any viruses or other nasties. -
You're very well protected
Actually, for my cam, if you type "acer obricam" in Google, you will see that the problem is very widespread. It's that when there are no images in the image folder, the software works; otherwise, it says "acer obri cam has stopped working." So in my opinion, the problem comes from a bug either in Vista or in Acer. -
-
I just typed acer orbicam
on various sites, check the second one "ACER orbicam does not work on Vista"
it's info-du-net.
There, some people provide ways to recover the cam, you should go take a look and try. -
I have had it for 2 years and I am very happy with it.
