Epson DX7400 ink cartridge problem

Hello,
Hello,
I have an Epson DX7400 series with separate color and black cartridges.
I changed my black cartridge, but not the color one, which also needs replacing; however, I cannot print a document! Even though my black cartridge is full and I have selected to print in black only... is this normal? Do I need to have a little ink in each cartridge to be able to print?
Yet, none of my previous printers required this.
It shows me a window saying that 2 of my 3 color cartridges are empty, yet I should be able to print in black only... I do not understand at all.
Can you help me?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0

Hello,
I have a big problem with my Epson DX 7400. When I just changed the cartridges (real ones, bought at Fnac and all that, you know), after 5 or 6 printouts (basic stuff like delivery summaries, account previews, etc. but never any photos, unfortunately!!), in text + graphics mode because the draft mode is ... ... drafty !!, a window kindly tells me that I'm out of ink !!
Is it my printer, the driver, or simply Epson making a bit of money?
This is actually the third Epson I own (the first was by far the best, the second was okay but the scan was good, and the DX 7400 has a super scan, when it works, very good print quality but the price of the cartridges wow... especially when they're already empty... sniff

Hello DE01400
Strange, yes... but that's how it is; if a cartridge is empty ===> printing impossible.
Excerpt from online support
Printing is not possible when a cartridge is empty. Leave the empty cartridge installed in the EPSON Stylus DX7400 multifunction printer until you have a replacement cartridge; otherwise, the ink in the print head nozzles may dry out.

Hello,

I just realized that I have the same problem!!!! I've changed my black cartridge twice and it still doesn't work, it keeps telling me that the cartridge is not compatible even though it's an Epson cartridge!!! And since I haven't put the color ones back in, it won't work at all!!! I had it repaired a month ago because the nozzles were clogged from being dry!!! Epson printers are really not economical!!!

I have the same problem; when you change one cartridge, you have to change them all. Even if the black one is full, you still have to change the others. I also have one from Epson DX 7400.

Hello...
the way you go....
there must not be a single cartridge that the printer detects as empty....
But there's no need to change all the cartridges if only one is empty....
We change the empty one.... that's all.
