Automatic VNC startup.

Hi,

by default (in the latest versions), VNC starts automatically on startup. If it doesn't, it might be that the service has been disabled or set to start manually.
To set it back to automatic, go to (under XP) Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services. In the list of services, right-click on "VNC Server version 4" (or something like that), then "Properties", choose "Startup type: Automatic", click "Start" and OK. Restart your computer to see if it works. If it still doesn't work, download the latest version of VNC and reinstall it.

You need to install VNC as a service (Start>All Programs>UltraVNC>UltraVNCServer>Install UltraVNC Service).

Then, make sure to set the startup to automatic and that's all set!

You go to Start>All Programs>UltraVNC>UltraVNC Server>Install WinVNC Service

And there you go, VNC is installed as a service and thus starts before the Windows login, so you can log in remotely...

It also depends on which VNC you are talking about.

I went with Real VNC while XxTitxX is talking about UltraVNC, which are two more or less different things.

Could you specify which one you have?

I have installed the client and server, and everything works correctly from NAT to NAT using a public repeater. :D

I have installed the Server as a service on my test PC (OK, it’s running properly in the list of active services); but, is it possible to start a connection:
- without manually launching winvnc.exe on the server?
- without having to "Add a new Client" (Machine Name + ID code) manually on the server?

Or if a 100% automatic connection is not possible, simply activate the connection by asking the user behind the server to click on just one button?

So it's true what I'm saying, VNC can be started automatically in server mode but indeed, it doesn't start a session (everything should happen automatically)
At my parents' place, that's what I did, given their level of IT knowledge, it starts by itself and I set a password on the server side. Then obviously, on the client side (at my place), I need to launch the program and connect with the password. And it works well.
The only downside is that you obviously need to know the IP address to connect to, and since it's not a static address, you still have to find a way to get that key...

But I no longer remember where this option is, because I haven't reinstalled it

There was no need to reinstall if you follow my procedure, but if you're going to reinstall, don't forget to check Install as a service ....

It is indeed UltraVNC that I have.
However, your technique could be useful to me in many other programs.

I might have a solution, but I can't guarantee anything (I'm far from being a pro)
Go to Start, then Run. Then type msconfig and go to Startup. If your software's name is listed there, check the box, then close and restart.

For security reasons, I automatically delete all programs from "all programs," that's why...
Then, for Darwin42, vnc does not appear in the list...
So I will reinstall it...
