How to disable extended desktop option

Question

Hello, I play an online game, and my problem is that once the game starts, after a short period of time (5 minutes or more or less), the game crashes, I see a black screen, I then close the game window, and my ATI Radeon HD2400 graphics card tells me that the atikmdag driver is not responding and has been recovered, followed by 'the extended desktop option is currently enabled. Before you can enable an extended desktop on this screen, you need to disable the extended desktop option.'  I have updated my drivers, but I don't know where and how to disable the extended desktop.  If someone has a solution, thank you.

Hello,  I tried to disable the "extended desktop" option in the display settings on my main monitor, but I can't uncheck the box to disable it. I also notice that my main monitor should, I believe, be "(default screen) on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400," whereas it says "Generic Plug and Play Monitor on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400," and I am unable to change anything!  If you have a solution, thank you.

Hello, I've had a problem with my PC for the past couple of days, everything has become bigger on the desktop, shortcuts, browser. I think the extended desktop mode is enabled, but after trying everything, I haven't been able to disable it. If someone has an answer, that would be great, thanks.

I'm on XP, I've already tried changing the resolution; it changes but everything remains bigger, and if I raise the resolution even more, everything stays big but looks uglier and more stretched. I really think the extended desktop option is activated, and I can't seem to disable it. :s

No, so actually I wanted to install a driver for my ATI graphics card, but it turned out to be a software and not a driver, uh, Catalyst Control Center, a software from ATI to control everything without going into the settings. I had gone into my graphics card settings and updated the driver, but it reverted to an older version. Seeing that CCC (Catalyst Control Center) was no longer useful to me, I uninstalled it and reverted to the current version of my ATI graphics card by turning off my PC. The next day when I turned it back on, everything had become larger, and in CCC I could click on the extended desktop option, but I couldn't click on the disable display mode. That's how it happened.

The driver for your graphics card might be the cause! It might not be the right driver. In the Device Manager, check if you have a yellow exclamation mark /!\ on your graphics card. Also click on the + -- Who loves instruction! Find the knowledge that comes from reflection!

Reinstalling the system is not formatting, we don't go through the BIOS! We simply put the installation CD in the running PC drive! And we follow the instructions without data loss! Try it, otherwise you'll have to format your HDD and reinstall Windows and the drivers.   -- Who loves instruction! Find the knowledge that comes from reflection!

Click on Next, and in the calendar see if you have restore points (days)
highlighted in bold from before your changes!

Thank you, it works, but you forgot to mention that I had to reinstall Windows afterwards, but it's nothing too serious; it reinstalls without the CD. Anyway, thanks for solving the issue for me, problem resolved ;)
