Hello,
You need to open the registry: start - run - REGEDIT
In: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]
Right-click on "environment" then "new" and "string value"
Rename the new value to PATHEXT
Double click on PATHEXT and enter .COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH;.MSC
Restart the computer
Good luck

SOLUTION:
- Boot in safe mode (F8 at startup)
- Click Start/Run, type "msconfig"
- Go to the last tab at the top (Tools or Options)
- Look for and execute in the list "disable user account control" (This is what's causing the issue)
- Apply, OK, Restart and it's super great.
OR change it right away to Windows XP.

Hi,
Check if your environment variables are correct!
Right-click on COMPUTER - properties - on the left, click on "advanced system settings"
Environment variables - look for "PATH" and see if you have at least this:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;J:\Program Files\Windows Imaging\

Good evening, I have the same problem since this evening and after trying the different tips I could find, none of them work. The last thing I did was the advanced system settings, and when I click on it, it opens the window telling me that the system did not find the specified environment option. What should I do?
Hello,
It's the PATH line that you need to check,
You can also verify and modify it by going to "All Programs" "Accessories" + right-click on "Command Prompt" and run as administrator.
In the command window, type PATH.

Hello yvesg4
I clicked on accessories, right-clicked on run as administrator. The machine threw me out. I simply clicked and here is what the machine responded
Microsoft Windows [version 6.0.6001]

C:\Users\Gilbert Baladi>PATH
PATH=C:\Windows\System32

Does this make sense to you? Thank you for kindly taking care of my problem; but I am clueless in this matter.
Best regards

Hello,
Have you not reset your system to a date prior to the installation of Thunderbird? If so, reinstall Thunderbird.

Hello! I have the same problem, but my parents won't let me reset the computer! I really don't know what to do! I can't download anything, and I can hardly open anything! I can't even change the username, nothing! What should I do? Help me!
HELLO
I have the same problem "The system cannot find the specified environment option."
I just got my PC back from the support service, which reset the disk to factory settings, and since then I can't do anything.
I (miraculously) managed to install ff but not Google Chrome
I tried all the tips above but none worked
The only thing I got was the response PATH in a regular command window
Here it is
C:\Users\Utilisateur>PATH
PATH=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program File
s (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA
Corporation\PhysX\Common;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbe

\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\;C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\syswow6

What can I do?
Thanks in advance.

Don't think I'm doing this on purpose, but my computer refuses to run REGEDIT!
I'm confused, but I don't know what to do anymore. Can I access HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM in another way?
Thank you for taking the trouble.
