Hello,

I have a WXP PC that I know how to use fairly well.

But my concierge asks me to intervene on her daughter's PC, which hardly works anymore. I’m trying to clean it up. However, to start, I would like to create a restore point, but I have a problem: I can't find where to make a restore point in the W98 menus.

Can you help me?

    Hello,

    there is no restore point on Windows 98, you can simply repair or restore the registry if, of course, there is a backup.

    To do this, when you start the computer, press the F8 key and choose to start in MSDOS Mode and once at the command prompt C:\Windows\> type scanreg and you can see if there is a restoration base. You can also try scanreg /fix and scanreg /restor

    After that, if it’s not successful, you will need to restart the installation with the Windows 98 CD, choosing to install it in the same folder that is already present C:\Windows. This keeps personal documents.

    What exactly do you want to clean?

    If it's a PC that has been used on the Web, you should start by installing CCleaner, and even if it hasn't been used on the Web, it helps to do a good cleanup of unnecessary files.
