Hello,
Windows XP Pro.
I have 4 browsers ‼
► IE7 (almost required)
► Firefox (for security)
► Safari (for downloads…)
► Opera (for lightweight use).
I haven't set a default browser, but it always defaults to Firefox when I click on the shortcut icon! This is annoying, especially for online security scans, which mostly only work under IE.
I'm sure we can integrate the browser of our choice into the command line of the shortcut. But how?
If you know the trick, you'll save me time and surely help many others ‼
Thanks,
@+

Eureka dad ‼!
► I take a shortcut on the desktop (GIMP 2, randomly bizarre: Who cares!)
► I make two copies.
► I open it: ► Properties ► Shortcut
•1► In the first
►► target = "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" https://www.commentcamarche.net/
►► Start in = %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
( or = "C:\program files\mozilla firefox\": it's the same)
••••••►
The icon immediately becomes that of Firefox,
and if I double-click on it → https://www.commentcamarche.net/ OPENED IN FIREFOX ‼
•2► In the second
►► target = "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" https://www.commentcamarche.net/
►► Start in = %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
( or = "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\": it's the same)
••••••►
The icon immediately becomes that of Internet Explorer
and if I double-click on it → https://www.commentcamarche.net/ OPENED IN IE7 ‼
What do you think, Yod'poil?
So, problem solved.

► Sandul
Indeed, you did not understand.
For example: I am on CÇM.
I drag the hilarious beaver icon from http:// to my desktop: this icon will be my shortcut to CÇM (and even, for THE page of CÇM open…). But the browser used is not noted in the shortcut.
If I set IE7 as the default browser, ALL my shortcuts will be launched by IE7… which I do NOT want, precisely ‼

Your shortcuts are therefore not shortcuts to launch a browser (with its default homepage) but rather web addresses that you want to open conditionally with one of your 4 installed browsers. In fact, your shortcuts are bookmarks.
"I'm sure we can specify the browser to use IN the command line of the shortcut" <== probably, if we take the time to create a .bat behind the shortcut, BUT UNDER WHICH CONDITION should the shortcut choose Firefox instead of IE if you don't want to use the default browser state mentioned by nabla?? Since you don't specify, I don't see how we can respond to you...

There is no need for a .bat file; the shortcut address itself is an "executable" line of "cmd": it is therefore in itself a "batch file".
To convince oneself:
► right-click on the desktop ► new ► shortcut ► "command line": shutdown -s -t 00
(or: echo=O|format … that one is funny ‼)
What I'm missing is only the syntax! I saw it on a "Windows 2000" machine, but it has been reformatted to "Windows XP Pro".

The behavior must be systematic, and not conditional: in each line calling an http address, the call to the desired browser intermediary for this http address must be explicitly written.
Like a branch in the good old DOS.
CMD is an incestuous child of DOS and UNIX: it has fewer commands than DOS, but they are more powerful, such as using names longer than 8 characters and the use of "spaces."
I saw a call to Google via Firefox, with an older version of Firefox!
So you can do the same with any other browser.
Small mistake: the old machine was not under 2000, but under XP Pro: since it was previously dedicated to 2000, C: no longer had enough space to load roaming profiles, provided they were a bit "rich" ‼

Hi,
“But it's always Firefox that gets stuck with it when I click on the shortcut icon!” <== I didn't quite understand, maybe: you click on the Safari shortcut and Firefox launches? ^^
In that case, modify the shortcuts: they should all point to Firefox. Right-click on the shortcut/Properties, and change the "Target" field.

Hello,
I know this is an old post but here is a solution tested on Win 7 Pro
and it works, as long as you set the correct path to the explorer.

Little clarification regarding the Arrial position, the shortcut MUST have a space between the browser path and the web link path, furthermore, quotes need to be added to each path, resulting in:
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" "https://www.google.fr"
PS: I deliberately chose Google because the address "https://www.commentcamarche.net/" is too long to fit on a single line in the post window -> so you can't see the space between the two paths.

I admit I don't understand what you want to do (but well, you can play with your computer, after all tomorrow is Wednesday and there is no school so no homework).
I am nonetheless in a state of blissful admiration in front of such selflessness :p :D

For simple utility: such a site shortcut will be opened with such a browser while another shortcut will be opened with another browser, which is practical when you know how to use the strengths of each browser (for my part, it's simple: the new MSN opens emails with the default browser, but coincidentally, Firefox crashes when I use the Windows Live Messenger mail... so shortcut to the Hotmail messaging launched under IE)
