Hello,
I have a Canon digital IXUS 750. I put it in my pocket, it turned on without me realizing it, and the zoom got stuck halfway open. When I try to restart it, it beeps and turns off. It's like the command is still locked. If anyone has a solution, that would be really nice. I went to a photo shop, and they advised me to send it back to Canon at an outrageous price.

Hello,
I had the same problem with an IXUS 900;
I am posting on this thread to report the blatant incompetence of Canon's services towards consumers.
The facts:
After a year of use without any mishandling, the zoom on my device got stuck. I sent the device to an authorized CANON center. The estimate, which is normally 20 euros, was charged to me at 40 euros because the center is a private repair shop authorized by CANON (no prior information about the estimate fees had been provided to me by Canon or this authorized center). I went to pick up my device, which had not been repaired. I first noticed that the device hadn't been opened, and therefore the estimate was automatically charged without any intervention. I had taken care to report the malfunction earlier to save time.
So I see that CANON promotes dishonest repairers under the guise of authorization. Absolutely scandalous!
Then I contacted Canon France's technical service to find a solution. No options were offered to reduce the repair bill, which amounts to 150 euros; I could add 50 euros and get a new one with a 2-year warranty at this price! I suggested paying for the labor and part of the piece (the zoom), which apparently frequently fails on a large number of Canon devices. The person in the technical service did not want to negotiate anything.
So I see that Canon employs people who do not understand commercial policy and the importance of customer satisfaction. No gesture or discount is possible for a device that is new and has not suffered any mishandling (that's not their concern).
Canon thus produces faulty devices in series, most of which are claimed under warranty in the first year or even the second year (when the warranty is honored, as it is far from always the case), so very few consumers complain about it.
The repair estimates are unacceptable (better to keep the defective device for spare parts and buy a new one for the same price).
It is very unfortunate that the performance of certain CANON models is accompanied by the incompetence of people called "responsible" in the technical services.
I have therefore decided as of today not to buy CANON anymore.
Communication through forums, consumer associations, and Canon's management will be informed, and I hope this post will help the unfortunate ones who buy Canon models doomed to break down in more or less short order.

I read all the posts:
thanks for all the advice
I took it apart
every little screw just right
it took me a good half hour
I checked the zoom
the problem was hard to identify
.....
it suddenly jumped against the wall!
damn I'll go buy another one from a different brand.
there you go
I have the same zoom issue with an IXUS 960 IS, and yes, I've also received the same response from FNAC's technical service: a €150 repair cost.
Almost the price of the device.
It seems that this is due to the fact that these devices are manufactured in low-wage countries and serviced in Europe (expensive labor). I don't understand why there isn't a specialized blog or some electronics specialists who could offer repair assistance or a less costly solution!
We have some brainpower in France after all !!!!
Does anyone know of a site or contact for repairing a Canon IXUS?
Likewise, I no longer buy CANON; I have experienced this with 2 devices, both with stuck zooms!
