Hello,

Hello,

I am reaching out to see if you can help me.
I have a problem with my 18-55 lens from 2009 or 2010.

I recently changed cameras, moving from an EOS 1000D to a 750D, and I kept my lenses which were working perfectly.

But since my return from vacation, my 18-55 has been acting up and does not always autofocus; I have to move the ring to unlock it, and even then, it doesn't always work, while my 55-250 works perfectly, so the issue is clearly with the 18-55 lens.

I'd like to know if this has happened to you before and what the problem might be.

Thank you.

Hello,

I find myself exactly in the same situation!
I swapped my 1000D (which broke down) for a 700D and today I had major autofocus issues with my 15-55mm while having no problems with my 55-250mm and my 40mm... anyway
Have you resolved the issue on your side?
Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

In most cases, it's the ribbon cable that is cut. To replace it, you need to have the skills of a good handyman. I did it on a Canon zoom without too much difficulty, cost of the operation €10. At Canon, the operation will cost you 5 x €10 or more.

You can easily find the ribbon cable on eBay.

Here's a little visual idea regarding a problem with the AF button. To replace the ribbon cable of the AF motor, it's the same intervention except that you need to know how to solder with tin. > http://arthur.lutz.im/blog/2014/08/reparation-autofocus-canon-efs-18-55mm-ii/

Thank you for this information. I took advantage of the visit of a regular for this type of disassembly this weekend to take a look inside my Canon EFS 18-55 lens. After refining the analysis, I noticed that the autofocus only works in one direction.
It is indeed a severed flex cable, but it is located underneath the circuit board. I just ordered the flex cable on eBay.

Thank you for the tutorial, it helped us find the severed flex cable

I also found this video tutorial that shows the disassembly of the lens for this operation; indeed, when it comes to changing the flex cable... that's going to be another story, you have to completely disassemble the lens!

In the meantime, I have to wait; fortunately, I have my 40mm, I only use the 18-55 occasionally, but it’s always when it doesn’t work that we need it!
