hi
I will help you

so you right-click on the file in question with the .cbr extension, choose rename, then go to the end of the file name and change only the extension, that is to say CBR, and replace it with RAR, then hit enter
the file automatically converts to RAR
you decompress it using winrar and there you have your file

I am always efficient and I take the time to help people

thank you

Thank you very much for the response!
I didn't know about this extension!
Fortunately, there are kind people around!
And... a little hello to everyone from Montpellier!

No, he's a clown because he opens a CBR with WinRAR. Changing the extension or not, it doesn't matter.

A CBR is a renamed RAR.
But if it has been renamed, it's precisely so that it can't be opened by WinRAR, 7-zip, or others, but by CDisplay, Gonvisor, ...

It's like opening a .cab with WinRAR... No interest... The .cab is an executable archive; you don't just rename a file by changing its extension for nothing... You can open it with WinRAR, and what do you get? Images of each page? Whereas with the appropriate software, you'll have a nice full-screen scroll, and everything.
When you read a book, you take the whole book, not page by page...

What I thought while reading our friend Lee is that he's just a show-off looking for attention.
His technique works yes, but it doesn't teach anyone anything. Cows also say thank you to the farmer who takes them to eat grass before they get eaten themselves...
Ignorance is no excuse...
When I help someone, I don't say, "I'm the best and because I am, I accept to help you! MuuuAhahahahahaa !!!!"
So, that's that. Have fun ;)
And thanks Lee, your clear explanation has still helped some people, but modesty doesn't hurt, right? ;)

These links are too old.
However, I found CDiplay very nice; it's really worth not renaming to rar.

Well, leave Lee alone, don't forget that he might be young, maybe 10 years old. Let youth be.

Agreed with Ben. I just viewed this page because I'm encountering a CBR for the first time. We're not holding a contest of professionalism or expertise! The goal is to help each other. If someone messes up or gives a solution that isn't the most suitable, and even if they self-congratulate along the way, we can tell them they're mistaken without resorting to calling them a puppet... In short, I don't always find it super constructive to berate someone like that, regardless of the circumstances... The aim is still to help the person who posted, not to play the pilot.
Then, this raises the question of needing to install an additional reader and the portability of files. For us, it will work, but as soon as we use the file elsewhere, we'll have to reinstall the reader.
So the question is, can't we convert the CBR to make it more universally compatible without using third-party readers? In which case, a simple PDF conversion would do the trick after decompression...
Well, it might be my turn, but just in case, I'm submitting the hypothesis.

Just to say that you all made me laugh... I've been using this site for occasional research for a long time, but this is the first time I really wanted to respond to a topic...

So let's start like everyone else by hitting on the open doors:
- no, renaming a file extension does not convert the said file. In reality, this extension is there just to guide users. The real "business card" of a file is in its header, but Windows has a bit of trouble with that... Well, that's another debate... ;-)

- calling someone a clown is wildly amusing, but not even being able to explain why the insult, the biggest clown isn’t necessarily the one targeted...

- one must acknowledge one thing about Jet Lee, he tried to help. And given the following comments, he succeeded. So, despite the nonsense he said, he contributed to the essential. We cannot take that away from him, he helped, and that’s, I believe, the purpose of this site...

- and finally my last thought for the so-called “pros of tweaking”. Seriously, if the extension was .rar (implying that .cbr is not a real format but, as I-can’t-remember-who said, a "renamed .rar") what does it matter to you that some people prefer renaming the extension? Personally, I haven’t tried your software, but I don’t need it. It’s probably very good but totally useless for me. There are people who like to collect little software for everything and anything, I had my phase too, but now I prefer to avoid downloading any dodgy program just for the pleasure of it doing one (rarely useful) thing more than the previous one. So keep an open mind... ;-)

Ha! And just for fun: I clarify for I-don’t-know-who that I am very silly, I read the pages one by one. Reading several at the same time is too complicated... ;-)

PS: To avoid upsetting the meanies-who-don't-want-us-to-rename-extensions, you can also right-click on the file -> "open with" -> "choose the program" -> select 7-zip/winrar (check the "Always" box -> "OK" and it will be done...

Hello,
otherwise we do "open with"... winrar
there is no conversion when we change the extension of a file

In fact, there's a great program for this extension. It allows you to view comic books. The name is comic reader. You can find it at this address: http://comic-reader.freedownloadscenter.com/windows/

I don't understand why you're treating Lee Kung Fu King like a clown, because I followed his procedure and it works! He is simply proud to have helped someone. So, let's show a little moderation in your comments.

Well, I want to clarify that people who insult are a bit of clowns too, why?
I'll explain, even if the message is two months old, it reminded me of this trick
I'll give an example: I have a .cbr file, I open it with Quickzip and it doesn't recognize it, so I rename it and open it with the same software, and it recognizes it and extracts the files for reading.
I'm agree that there's no file conversion, but it allows different software to recognize the extension for extraction.
So, the clowns are you :p Especially since a non-constructive criticism (I'm talking about those who insult without explaining why) is criticism equivalent to a sparrow's droppings.

When you appreciate comics in eBook format, you quickly realize that there are far too many formats. Opening by changing the extension and having 300 separate pages has its advantages.

For my part, I always convert my eBooks into .exe files using IrfanView, which means the eBook is available on any PC without needing software installed.

Having the 300-page version therefore has its advantages for me.

Megapouet, instead of insulting those who provided the real solution, read their response.

.CBR, .CBZ, etc. should not be renamed to .rar or .zip; that's completely silly. You'll end up with extracted pages. That's not the purpose of .cbr/.cbz

You need to install, as thanoseid or Lyssorus said, CDISPLAY available here:
https://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Multimedia/albmums_et_visionneuses/fiches/33446.html

and there, oh miracle, you can watch comics directly in full screen without decompressing them, with lots of cool options: page change with mouse or spacebar, adjusting pages to screen width, etc., etc. (And it's a thousand times more convenient than decompressing .cbr/.cbz with winrar or 7-zip and then reading page by page)

jet lee kung fu king congratulations you were the first to give insight to all those who already claimed to know that a renamed extension gives nothing, but in fact they didn't know what to do with this extension at first glance and only remembered that after renaming this extension they could decompress it with winrar etc...!
In fact, they are pretentious fakes! While wanting to enlighten the ignorant readers in this kind of situation, you simply forgot to write the continuation of your thought, but a minimally sensible person should have been able to find the solution on their own!

Thank you for your response
ps: I instinctively understood the rest of the solution thanks to your reasoning and not to the others' solutions.

ps: also a special mention for Ayack who gave a relevant comment!

Download the French version 1852 of CDisplay. It works.

Be careful not to download version 1.8.1.0 Fr provided in the link above because my antivirus detects a Trojan horse.
