Hello bibiderosny,

I won’t be able to help you much either because I also want to solve this same blockage.

Yes, the charming "Windows Mail" product from "Microsoft" has a powerful blockage in one of its message export functions to "Microsoft Exchange" format, see below:

Moreover, I found no mention related to it in the online help and support from "Microsoft"!

So, your opinions, expert friends...

In fact, it seems that no MAPI export is possible until a "MAPI receiver" has been created.

Practically, this is explained here: https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/office/importer-vos-messages-ou-votre-compte-%c3%a0-partir-d-outlook-express-vers-outlook-ca8ecaab-3330-46a1-b925-deac3f3c4359?ui=fr-fr&rs=fr-fr&ad=fr

The solution I implemented on one machine was to install Outlook (2003 in my case),
to go through the entire installation,
to launch Outlook so that it creates a valid profile. I specify that activating Office is unnecessary for this. A borrowed Outlook can suffice to retrieve the .PST export file if that is what you are trying to do.
to export from Windows Mail, which then started working (just by chance...)
to retrieve messages in Outlook (and incidentally the .PST file associated with the newly created Outlook profile if it is to be transferred to another machine or imported elsewhere).

Incidentally, I specify that unless you have a partnership with Microsoft, the Windows VISTA hotline on Windows Mail will not give you the previous information unless you pay, at least in France, which is a shame as I explained here: http://thecriclinks.blogspot.com/2008/06/larnaque-microsoft-se-fait-payer-le.html

Hello,
I performed the operation indicated in the support: https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/office/importer-vos-messages-ou-votre-compte-%c3%a0-partir-d-outlook-express-vers-outlook-ca8ecaab-3330-46a1-b925-deac3f3c4359?ui=fr-fr&rs=fr-fr&ad=fr
regarding the "Modifying your MAPI settings".
In my Outlook Express 6, I only have the option to choose: Windows Live Mail as another email application different from Outlook Express in the Email list.
But with this new setting, exporting messages doesn’t work either.

On the other hand, I don't have Office 2003 or Outlook, and I cannot perform the operation you recommend.

I can only suggest that you borrow it (with its valid keys of course)
during the Office installation, simply cancel the activation - this grants about fifty uses.
During the installation, just choose a custom installation by only installing Outlook (leaving out Word, Excel, etc.)
when launching Outlook, try to locate where the .pst file will be stored if it's for mail transfer via a .pst
a close/open of Outlook and the Windows Mail MAPI export will start working, allowing us to import messages from Thunderbird by selecting import from Outlook

I suppose this could work with another MAPI email client
http://www.filetransit.com//software/mapi-email-client

it is also possible to have a trial version of Office 2007
http://www.microsoft.com/france/office/2007/evaluation/telechargement.mspx
this allows for the transfer and once done, you can uninstall Office if you want

Thank you for all your documentation, which seems very clear.

However, I want to export my messages in "Microsoft Exchange" format so I can retrieve them with the other email client software, that's all.
And for that, I don't want to go through a whole bunch of software gymnastics to achieve it.

Moreover, I find with unpleasant surprise that this message export doesn't work:
- neither on Windows XP with Outlook Express 6,
- nor on Windows Vista with Windows Mail.

So I say " Great " the so-called user-friendly features from "Microsoft."

That's exactly why I yelled at Microsoft France's customer service (link on TheCricLinks above), which only provides information for a fee, while they display a non-gray link that leads to an error message, making it very confusing for the average user, as they have no way out.

Moreover, there used to be a MAPI client (which stands for Microsoft Exchange API) that was included with Windows by default, and those same links used to work out of the box. But apparently, exchange is not what characterizes Microsoft the most, but rather the desire to capture its customers.

That's why, if you're really eager to live far away from those $$$ "raptors", the method of installing a temporary office, exporting to Exchange, retrieving the data in another (non-Microsoft) email client, then uninstalling Office and saying Bye Bye MS seems like a healthy option.
But this option doesn't seem to be part of common practice, and Microsoft knows that once you're accustomed to an interface, it's hard to change, which is how they keep customers captive... And hardware vendors love Microsoft so much because it makes their equipment age so quickly...

I should add that if you transfer your email to Thunderbird and want to switch from Windows to Linux, the transfer is really simple....
