Hard Drive Firmware Installation So Speaky

Hello everyone, dear forum members,

This is the first question I'm posting on this forum. Most of my problems (computer-related, which is already quite a lot) were resolved by consulting previous solutions on this site...

Here, I'm stuck. Here's my issue; sorry for any novice language. I bought a So Speaky multimedia hard drive from Dane Elec. Everything was working fine; my So Speaky and I were listening to music, watching movies, we really had a fulfilling relationship. Unfortunately, one day while I was making changes to folder rankings, I clumsily extended my leg, which was crawling with ants, and I kicked my So Speaky while transferring a file... As a result: it froze, and after rebooting, the hard drive runs much slower, and access to the entire folder of the file that was transferring is blocked.

I’ll spare you the rest of the details, but ultimately, given the various problems I encountered, I (foolishly) backed up everything to another security hard drive and formatted my So Speaky. I KNOW!!! SHAME ON ME!!! Indeed, I just, but too late, noticed on the Dane Elec website that they specifically state not to format the So Speaky as it can lose its multimedia capabilities...
And well, that's precisely the reason for this lengthy introduction to my problem. When I connect it to the TV, it only detects, let’s say, at best, one-tenth of my music folders, and it no longer supports long file/folder names...

I must have indeed deleted files necessary for the multimedia function...

My question is twofold:

- Has anyone experienced the same problem and resolved it, or could someone suggest something to this miserable little worm that I am?
- I downloaded the updated firmware for the So Speaky from the Dane Elec website. Do you think installing it on the So Speaky can resolve my problem? If so, how do you install the firmware on the hard drive? In which directory?

PLEASE HELP ME, my So Speaky and I still have so much to experience together; come on, a good deed!!!
PS: Everything works perfectly on my PC when I connect it; the problem only arises when connected to the TV...

Thank you in advance to all
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

    Hello
I also got a multimedia external hard drive
http://www.danedigital.com/4-Disques-Durs-externes/5-so-speaky.html is that the one you have
I also had some issues when purchasing it, I managed to put music videos on it ... but the problem is that the remote was acting up (when I pressed the button to increase the volume it actually went down, or when I played my videos in fast forward sometimes when I pressed too hard it would turn off by itself...) I managed to connect it to the TV in my room but when I plugged it into the TV in my living room, it was impossible to get an image on the TV
I returned it to the store and they exchanged it for me under warranty
(the hard drive I had before was formatted in NTFS and the one they gave me was in FAT32. I don't know if the first one was new but it's pretty strange)
the one they gave me worked until I installed the firmware (I had put all my data on my computer's hard drive)
I plugged it into my TV and it asked if I wanted to install the update, I said yes and it started displaying things in English and then for 30 seconds it scrolled
    wrhite
    erase
    whrite
    erase
    wrhite
    erase
    whrite
    erase
    ...

    then a black screen
I left the black screen for 3 hours
I then put my data back on the multimedia hard drive
it worked well even though it didn't have the update but when I wanted to watch a movie it skipped 30 seconds from the movie at times (I'm just sharing a bit of my life lol)

if you have the warranty I think they can exchange it for you
the firmware might be a solution but first ask if they can exchange it under your warranty
for the firmware installation I put it directly in the main folder of the hard drive (I don't know where else to put it)
I wanted to know if you had problems with your remote?
is your multimedia hard drive in FAT32 or NTFS?
I hope you have the same hard drive as mine otherwise it would be a bit silly

    good luck

just for info I bought a Meizu mp4 about 2 years ago and I had a lot of problems I exchanged it twice once because of a firmware issue and the other because they gave me a buggy mp4 (probably one that was not new) the new one I had still had a lot of problems
!!!!I will never buy anything from Dane Elec again!!!!!

Hello, well like all the unfortunate souls in this topic, I made the fatal mistake (converting a multimedia DDE to NTFS) anyway, if any of you would kindly provide me with the firmware for the So Speaky, please.

Hi everyone! Well, you may have all resolved your problem following the formatting of your DDM. In any case, I have, so if some of you haven't resolved it, I suggest downloading a small software named "fat32formatter" which will allow you to reformat your DDM in fat32 regardless of its size.
Don't forget to check the "quick format" box, as far as I remember, which will perform a quick format!
Of course, make sure you have transferred all your data to another hard drive, as this is still a formatting process!! :)
As for me, after this, when I turned my DDM back on on my TV, it displayed its original menu again!! Without even a firmware reinstallation on my part!!
That's it, I hope this can help some of you!!

I did like you (formatted my so speaky) and Vista does not offer FAT32, the possibility is to create partitions (which I don't know how to do) and type the command prompt for formatting in FAT32 as an administrator in each partition. Too hard for me since I'm limited in computing skills, so I sent an email to Dane-elec who responded quickly (in 1 day) by sending me a ZIP file for FAT32 formatting of the external hard drive. Now I just have to test it!!!
hoping my message hasn’t been of any use to you because you’ve already solved your problem (posted long ago)

      Hello Flacket,

Well, it looks like you're going to be the solution to all my problems!!! Let's just say at least to my HDD problem (still not resolved), which is already not bad!
Could you please forward me the zip received from Dane-elec to my email, pretty please 8-)
      Thank you in advance!!!

100% false... I just updated my firmware to 1.31 on the Speaky PVR 500 Gb and I only had to reconfigure the time and the language.

All my files are still present and cause no issues with playback!

LOL ... It smells like a guy working at that cursed company ... anyway, as far as I'm concerned, I confirm it’s CRAP ... That damned external hard drive eventually worked but at what cost ......... I've already had to get a refund three times in barely a year for that piece of crap ... and I've lost audio from movies and series that I'll never recover ........ THANK YOU DANE ELEC !!!!!! and even now I'm fearing the worst at any moment since my warranty has already expired. Anyway, a little message to this company: YOU SHAME YOUR PROFESSION, A PIECE OF ADVICE, CHANGE YOUR FIELD OF ACTIVITY, IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR EVERYONE .............................. oh yeah, I almost forgot the main point: the waiting time for your files to load because dear internet friends know that when your external hard drive is three-quarters full, you will have to wait around 5 to 10 minutes to access its content, and if you add to that a compatibility with files that is more than incomplete, it’s truly a very bad investment ... so friend advice, if you haven't bought it yet, don’t buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and if you can't get a refund for that piece of crap yet, do it as soon as possible ... otherwise, you will definitely regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just saw the notice for my Multimedia Hard Drive and it clearly states "Warning: Make sure that your hard drive is properly formatted in FAT32 in order to read your files correctly."

Hello everyone, don't worry, download this program https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/8465-easeus-partition-master-free/, it is in English but very easy to understand. If you have a problem using it, contact me at clad27380@hotmail.fr. This program allows you to do everything on an internal or external hard drive. Install the program and launch it, right-click on your multimedia hard drive and click on format. Then in partition label, you can leave it empty or put a name for your hard drive, for file system choose FAT32, leave cluster size by default, then click ok and then in the bottom left click apply and wait. There you go, now your multimedia hard drive is ready to work again. ESPECIALLY DO NOT FORMAT THIS HARD DRIVE IN NTFS BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOUR MULTIMEDIA HARD DRIVE WILL STILL NOT WORK.

      Hi,

I also formatted the sospeaky 500G and switched it to NTFS to read a pretty large file, but seeing that it didn't work (my TV no longer detects it... no ROOT folder, nothing at all!!!) I went back by using the software to partition it to FAT32, but despite that, it is still not detected..! Do you have the system files for the multimedia hard drive knowing that these must be hidden files because on the empty disk at purchase, there was only a Manual folder (pdf doc of the device), an icon file (de.ico), and an autorun.inf file that I had saved but unsuccessfully because despite all the visible files restored on my FAT32 partition, it seems that the root "ROOT" has disappeared.

Thank you for your support; I'll return the favor if you can help me out.

To update the so speaky, simply copy the ROM file... content from the disk, without needing to specify a special register. Then, plug it into the TV. The update will occur automatically after 20 seconds. WARNING: Do not disconnect the device during this operation as it may be damaged. Once the operation is complete, delete the ROM file... from the disk to prevent an update from occurring every time you connect the device to the TV.
Hoping to have helped you, please accept my best regards.

    Hello,

I also have the same problem, except that I didn't format my disk, I just created a partition, that's it.
Result: no more playback possible on the TV.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    @gringo80

Sorry, but there is no ROM file on the accompanying CD ...
    Thank you anyway.

    Hello everyone.

I'm also having major problems with my so speaky (I formatted it) and now I can't read the files with my TV. (It's really unfortunate for a multimedia HDD). If someone could help me, I would be very grateful. I tried to contact Dan Elec, but no responses!!!

PS: I'm not good with computers so please don't hesitate to detail your explanations.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
when you format it, do you format it in NTFS or FAT32
because FAT32 is made for multimedia hard drives (you need to download software for that. You can get it for free on www.01.net
I returned it 3 times (thanks to the warranty) in 1 month because of problems and I got fed up, so I added 20 euros more for another hard drive.

    Hello,

I know I'm going to be a pain in the neck... but you always read the user manuals, that way you avoid the kind of blunders that void a warranty... like formatting the hard drive in our case.

For me personally, it works fine, except in USB 1.1! Lol... not on 2, who knows why, while all my other peripherals (external hard drive, CD burner, game controllers, cam) work just fine with USB 2. (note: I work in IT)

And then I noticed that one of the video files became impossible to delete on the so speaky..., on Saturday I placed 4 mp3s... it read them well... and then Saturday night... I noticed that while playing it produced noise on the TV. I always turned it off properly, going back to the menu every time... to not rush it... I haven't moved it since its installation... and yet on Sunday morning... nothing! I turn on the so speaky... and the hard drive is not spinning... the Dan-elec interface tells me "No media connected".

So there you go.. I join the ranks of users who have problems with the so speaky 500 GO... back to Leclerc Multimédia.... I don't know.. but I can feel the hassle coming lol.... (the last time it was with the MP-500 Acer.. that was sent back to me, and which failed again with the same problem 2 times, so I gave up).

If anyone from Dan-Elec happens to pass by... there's my email, you know...

    Hello

I have the Dane-Elec SO SPEAKY PVR 1TB
    It works very well

I just have a request to make, as the User Manual is not very clear!!!
How do you delete a directory on the Multimedia HDD?
Because when you press [Option] on the remote control, it only deletes the files in the directory but not the directory itself.

    Thank you for your answers

Regarding your previous problems, you format an external HDD in FAT32 and not in NTFS.

Please, is there anyone who can help me?
I formatted my 500 GB Dane-Elec hard drive to NTFS on Windows Vista and now I can no longer see my folders, my movies, my photos, ... on the TV. What should I do?
I tried to format it to FAT32, but it's not available on Windows Vista.
I spent a whole day looking for solutions, and I couldn't do anything.
Please help me, thank you. It's especially for my children; I have cartoon drawings on it, and I can't do anything.

    Hi everyone.

Unfortunately, I'm joining you to report that I am the X user of a Multimedia Hard Drive - So Speaky PVR (500 Go) having problems with this device...

Before I start my speech, in response to Seb, I really hope that formatting your HDD doesn’t "void the warranty" as he seems to indicate because that would be the last straw... (I've read the documentation provided and the one I downloaded from the official site, and I don't see anything that mentions such a thing!)

Personally, since the first day I unpacked this HDD, I’ve had nothing but issues:

    - I can’t turn off my multimedia HDD (at best it turns off and then turns back on or it doesn’t even respond when I press the power button on the HDD or the remote);

    - I had to format it to NTFS so that it could store "large files" (+ 4GB), because the FAT32 format cannot handle these files, but that’s not really a big deal (I even think NTFS should be the standard since almost all machines are and will be compatible with this format, and it seems to cause more problems than anything else... but that’s another debate...)

    - At the moment, I can no longer view my DDM on my TV!!! At best, I get the menu displayed for a few seconds and then it disappears just as quickly, and this happens at regular intervals of about 30 seconds... (could this be due to the formatting from FAT32 to NTFS?!!!)

As for the firmware, I have the original one, and before switching to version 1.31, I prefer to contact their customer service because I wouldn’t want them to blame me later or something... (Seb, you made me a bit paranoid about this, but anyway, I’d rather cover my back because with my 500GB HDD full of data, even if the firmware is supposed to only modify the DDM interface and not the data on it, it's better to be safe than sorry, especially in computing...)

    On that note...

    Hello,
I also purchased a so speaky HDMI and I'm having trouble watching my movies on my TV...
Like many others, I'm surprised to hear many people talking about formatting when the manual
doesn't mention it. Should we format it? Thank you for clarifying, Marie.

Good evening, I also acquired a So Speaky 500 GB multimedia drive to watch my videos, photos, etc. No problems there, but on the other hand, it's impossible to record a TV program. I made the connections as indicated in the "manual," but in the program menu, I set the time for the program I want to record, but in "source," I can only select "AV IN," and if I select a channel using the remote control (for example, I press the button 1 on the remote), the hard drive gives me a message "TIME/NO FACT" when I validate.

Does anyone have a solution? Because after 4 days of searching, I'm starting to wonder if I made the right choice buying this "thing."

    Thank you in advance
    Best regards.

I confirm there's no ROM file on the CD.

My So Speakey is working fine, it's just the remote control that is malfunctioning!!! No matter which button I press, it scrolls down one movie in the film list with each press, even on power...
If anyone has a solution, thanks in advance...
