Install program on external hard drive Solved

Question

Hello,
My C drive is almost full. I have purchased an external hard drive E. How can I install programs from C to E in order to free up space? I have already transferred my photos and videos to E, but that's not enough. I need to move heavy software (like JAVA, ADOBE READER, etc.) to E. Thank you for your guidance.

During the installation, the program asks you where you want to install it (e.g., C:/program files/adobe etc...) and there you change it to E: and the folder of your choice.

Hello Laclo, try to find the installation program for the software you want to install, copy and paste from the C drive to the E drive, and then try to install it; it might work. Is your external drive well formatted?

Good evening,

you can easily transfer your data from C: to E: by copy/pasting

however, moving installed programs from C: to E: won't work since an installed program doesn't move from one partition to another.

files you can move include: videos / music / documents / files (not the system lol)

you just need to uninstall the program and do a reinstall

for your information: XP needs 5 GB of free space to work. free up some space for it.

You can easily transfer files, but under no circumstances programs that you have already installed on your computer!

If you want to put programs on an EXTERNAL hard drive, you need to change the directory during installation (C: Program/External ...)

You can only move files like: music / video / document ...

As for me, when I download, it doesn't give me a choice, it tells me to save the file, and there's no option to change where to save it, then, when I click, the download starts and doesn't save in the desired location (external hard drive), yet it's properly connected to my PC!
