Keyboard latency

Hello,
I've been having a problem with my keyboard for a few days now. In certain games like Counter Strike Source, Urban Terror, or even Halo (solo), my keyboard responds with a delay; the character moves a second after I've pressed the key and continues to move a second after I’ve released the key. What’s strange is that I don’t have this issue in Oblivion or FEAR (with graphics on max) nor when I type text on MSN or Open Office; it only happens in certain games. When I started Halo in safe mode, the problem was gone, but it returned as soon as I changed a graphics setting (in safe mode, the graphics are very basic...). My keyboard is connected via the PS2 port, just like my mouse. A PC format and trying another keyboard (both USB and PS2) didn’t change anything :S My setup is as follows:
Athlon 64 3200+
2 GB of RAM
ATI X 1950 XT (latest drivers)
Microsoft XP SP2
Could a Microsoft update, a Steam update, or an Avast update be the cause of the problem? I’m out of ideas, so if someone could help me, that would be great...
Thanks!!

Apparently, the problem was with Avast (probably a faulty update) and not with my graphics card. I switched to a different antivirus and now it works like before. Maybe others are experiencing the same issue...

Yes, I've had that too for a while after installing Avast.

I'm late :p yes the problem comes from Avast if you check the drivers of your keyboard (when you still had Avast) Avast installs a driver for the keyboard.

Hi, you are experiencing what is called a "lag"

that means your ping is likely too poor to enjoy good online gaming conditions on the server in question, to avoid this, choose servers where the ping is as low as possible... and avoid those where your ping is high...

Hello,
The problem cannot come from the ping because even when playing solo on Halo, I have this issue. Also, when I play online, I never play on servers with a ping exceeding 60ms.

Maybe your graphics card is a bit limited for some of these games? But apparently it was working well on these games before?

Yes, it worked perfectly before, I have always played with the games that are giving me trouble now with the graphics set to max, especially since FEAR, which I have no issue with, is much more demanding than Halo or CSS where I experience this "lag."

fear more greedy than halo? are you sure about that?

well anyway, that's not the question... what's strange is that it continues even after a total reinstall... could your graphics card have taken a hit? but then why on some games and not others? strange strange... I don’t see...

maybe you could try your graphics card on another PC?

Well, my graphics card has never moved since I installed it, it has never taken a hit. The keyboard problem appeared just like that, overnight. I don't think it's due to the card since, as I said, FEAR and Oblivion run perfectly (yes, they are both much more demanding than Halo).

When I say "took a hit," I'm not talking physically, like a hammer blow or anything, but more in the sense of a sign of aging, overheating... I don't quite know, I'm just saying it like that because apart from that I don't see where else it could come from, given everything you've already tested...

Ok, my bad ^^ I've had the card since August 2007, so it's still fairly new, I think. In terms of temperature, I rarely exceeded 72°C (the needle is in the orange zone of the dial and far from the red zone). And under old games like Counter-Strike: Source, it didn't go above 60°C. Plus, if it were to show signs of weakness, I think it would reflect in the image, not in a "lag." Anyway, it's still odd. By the way, do you know any specialized websites with forums that could potentially help me?

yes, CCM ^^ ( so what? )

maybe someone else will come along with other suggestions...

but yes, there are loads of sites, but I don’t know them all...

and otherwise, as said, try the graphics card on another PC, see if it’s the card or not...

I have a second graphics card, an old GeForce 6200, I will try it soon. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me.
