I would like to know if phone numbers starting with 09....... are premium rate numbers.

Phone numbers starting with 09 are simply phone numbers for subscribers of Orange France Telecom FOR INTERNET. Receiving these calls costs you nothing, and calling this number is charged at the same rate as a call to an 01, 02, 03, 04, or 05 number.

- Numbers starting with 06 and 07: mobile telephone services.
- Numbers starting with 08: value-added telephone services.
- Numbers starting with 09: internet telephone services.

From France, it's free but when calling from abroad, the call is charged at "out of bundle" rates!
Can someone explain the reason?
All my family has Free and I can't call because it would cost me an arm and a leg. The 09 number is not recognized as a fixed line rate (by the way: I'm calling from abroad).

Hello,

I am experiencing the same issue.
I have a number "Alice" starting with 09, and my relatives from abroad can't call me.
Numbers starting with 09 from abroad are considered premium-rate. (Like French numbers starting with 08 charged at €0.32 or €0.56 per minute)

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Usually, with my Dartybox, I can call landlines in France (starting with 04, 03, 01, ...) for free. Is it the same for a landline starting with 09?

@elmatou: just contact alice to let them know that you want a number starting with 01, I think you just need to pay 50 euros, but I'm not sure about the amount.

Banks often start with 09, and from abroad, it is not recognized as a landline, I just tried and it's 1 euro and something per minute, let's just say it suits them well that we can't call them when we have a problem.

Normally, all operators offer number portability for 01 02 03 04 05 for free. Use this old number for calls from abroad with 0033 1, 0033 2, 0033 3, 0033 4, or 0033 5 depending on your number, and no more surcharges if it's abroad.
On the other hand, for you with your number starting with 09, when calling abroad, note that some countries have free calls to landlines and sometimes even to mobiles!!
