HELLO EVERYONE
I'm sending you this email because of a problem with my Archos. The issue is simple: every time I restart my Archos, it freezes on a white screen that says RECOVERY CODE 102 system is damaged. Would you like to recover it?
(no repair format disk). I have tried these three options but nothing works.
Additionally, there is no way to update it since my PC does not recognize my Archos as a hard drive.
PLEASE HELP ME

Hello,
Here is the response received from Archos technical support,
Follow the procedure and it works.
Dear Customer,
We invite you to save all the data on the hard drive of your player before proceeding with the operations below.
From our website and the download area, download the latest update available for your Archos 405.
On your Archos, please completely turn off the product by pressing and holding the ON/OFF button of the Archos, then press this button again to start the player. After the boot screen appears, press and hold the TV/LCD button to access the RECOVERY mode. (code 101)
Then format the disk from this menu. After this operation, the player will request a connection to your PC to copy an update file, then connect the Archos to the PC and copy the update file to the root of your hard drive.
Confirm the update on your Archos by pressing the OK button.
Your Archos will ask for confirmation to restart at the end of the update.
Sincerely,
Archos Technical Support.

Same issue... I'm waiting a super long time at startup... to finally see the blank recovery code 102 page
but as soon as I choose an option it restarts right away.
so it's impossible to connect it to the PC... to shove the latest firmware on it...
my warranty being no longer valid... I'm asking for your help.
Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone
Well, for me, it was error code 102 that was showing up and despite the 3 alternatives, nothing happened. I decided to unplug and replug the hard drive, it still didn't work. Before throwing it in the trash and because it was really getting on my nerves, I threw it across the room, followed by a dozen crashes against the floor like Jet Li. Now it works again.
Before that, the same thing with a DVD player; I had to smash it for it to start working again. If you've tried everything like I did, reboots, formatting and all that, just give it a good smack. Electronics are stupid; that's all they seem to need.
Good luck to you.

I've had this problem too, I read on various forums that it cost $140 to send it back to the Archos tech, so I figured it wasn't worth it. I decided to open my Archos to see inside. The hard drive came out in my hands, so it wasn't connected. I reconnected it and my Archos works like before! The hard drive connector is a bit strange, I'm not really good with electronics. It has a rectangular shape and is very thin, a bronze color if I remember correctly. Inside the Archos, where you plug in the hard drive connector, you can see like two pieces of plastic that fit into each other, like two clips on either side.
My Archos wasn't working anymore because I had dropped it and those two clips had come "unclipped."
It's up to you and good luck!
P.S. Be careful with the screws, you don't need to remove all of them. The screws were the hardest part :P

<h>hey, there are 4 discussions on the same site about the same issue! But I have, like you, the problem with code 101 and code 102.</h>
Poupi75014, it may have worked for you, but I’ve tried everything, including giving it a slap, but unfortunately, nothing works. My problem is that I can’t format it without backing up my 20GB of music that took me over 5 years to collect, plus some family files, videos, and photos. I have a 160GB drive with about 83GB free. I unplugged the hard drive hoping it would change something, but alas, nothing. So if anyone has a solution, I would be happy to hear it. tarikmeknesi@hotmail.fr
C'est clair que les vis, c'est galère !!!! Je suis en plein là-dessus !!! Si j'y arrive, je fais signe.
try to wipe the ribbon cable of the hard drive with an eraser, sometimes oxidation forms on the copper ...
I’m struggling with these messy errors too ... the thing is that sometimes mine works well (405) and sometimes it doesn’t start ... or after the recovery ... it depends!
Finally, I formatted it with Windows using a normal format, and I wiped the connectors of the ribbon cable ... we’ll see ...

I tried unplugging the hard drive and then plugging it back in, but I messed up the staples on the cable, so I do not recommend this option.
Well, I just found the solution to my problem on another forum....
In fact, the issue with code 102 comes from the SD card that was inserted. I tried without a card => nothing, with another 8GB SD card => nothing, I tried again with the first card => code 102.....
If I insert the card once the Archos is on => nothing...
However, I don't know what the problem is with this card because it has always been in it and it's similar to the second one that works with the 405.... It works very well in other devices, tested in a camera, PC...

I can implement this procedure, but it doesn't yield any results: Code 101 or 102, same issue. Is there a procedure, even a more aggressive one (like forcing the formatting, for example), that would allow me to reuse my 605 wifi?
Regards.
Same problem and after the appearance of code 101, going back to code 102 and then 101......... can you help me find a solution to this problem that is really starting to wear me out?
