CPL Issue Solved

Good evening,

I bought the Free CPL kit (2 black LEA Netplug turbo 85 units to connect via Ethernet) 5 months ago and everything was working perfectly until last week. For some totally unknown reason, now when I plug in the CPL unit connected to my laptop, it performs an "IP address reading" for a long time before finally displaying a message "Limited or no connectivity" and I can't connect to the Internet.

My setup is as follows: 1 CPL unit connected to the Club-Internet modem located on the ground floor of the house,
1 CPL unit connected to my laptop in the bedroom on the 2nd floor.

I would like to point out that it's only on the two outlets located in the bedroom that this doesn't work anymore and I'm getting this limited connectivity message, on any other outlet in the house it works normally (I am currently connected with the unit plugged into the room next to the bedroom...)! So I have deduced that the problem does not come from the units or the cables (I tested on several outlets in the house by switching both the units and the cables and it works), but rather from the outlets located in the bedroom... I really don't understand what could have happened overnight.

I contacted the manufacturer's customer service, but they don't seem to know what to do about this problem... :(

I hope someone has faced this issue and can guide me on what to do. Thank you in advance for your help!

One of my powerline adapters (Lea from Free, black version) stopped working, Ethernet diode off.

After disassembly, I identified 4 bulging capacitors, so they were dead. After replacing them, everything worked again.

I also add that when the connection is impossible, the "DATA" light is only off on the unit connected to the modem. But when I plug it into another outlet in the house, all the lights on both units are on...

I had the same powerline adapter issue, one of the lights wouldn't turn on, I sent both boxes back to Free, and they sent me a new pair (within 10 days).
There was said to be a batch of defective boxes sold around October 2007.

I have exactly the same problem for the past 2 days (Ethernet LED and date off, while the power is on).
Could you tell me more about capacitors or give me links that would explain this?
I’m not an expert in electricity, but I will try.
I bought my boxes just a year ago, via Neufstore.

I hope to answer the question regarding the failure of the dry capacitors on the black CPL boxes when the data LED no longer lights up. The 4 dry and bulging capacitors are 470μF 10 volts capacitors.

I dismantled the cases, everything seems normal, no dry or bulging capacitors. But the sync stopped just like that overnight without touching anything, even though it was working great.

I have 2 Net Plug85 CPL adapters for the Neuf TV decoder, everything was fine for a year and for the past 2 days I've been getting the message: TV signal not available, cable disconnected. However, it works with the Ethernet cable.
Is there a way to test the adapters since they are still under warranty (2 years from Neuf Store)?

Good evening, I am a customer with Neuf and I have the TV decoder and the Neuf Box 4. I wanted to connect the TV output of my modem to my decoder via the Ethernet cable, everything works well, I have all the channels from Neuf. I then bought the powerline adapters from the Neuf store, they are LEA 85 ... turbo, so I connect everything, and here’s the problem.
No more channels from Neuf, I call customer service and they tell me that they are just there to offer the adapters but in fact another company sells them. I am given the number for LEA, which I call immediately. After I don't know how many attempts, I manage to get the channels and they tell me that it’s coming from my electrical installation or the distance between the sockets.
So here it is, I have a 66 m² apartment, between my modem and my decoder there are 10 or 15 meters at most. Do you know many people who have 3 or 4 wall sockets next to each other?
Because it’s worth noting that you shouldn’t plug the adapters into an extension cord. When we have the phone + modem + powerline adapter, what do we do? I have prioritized my powerline adapter on my power strip but there are interruptions on my TV, the picture freezes and then comes back.
Does anyone have a solution to improve my installation?

By removing the 2 small clips on the sides, it comes apart.
I confirm for the 4 capacitors 470uF/10V. After measuring, they had dropped to around 10uF...
After replacement (and switching to 16V), it works again :)

Attention...... the black powerline adapters come with a 3-year warranty according to the manufacturer's site!!  (see Google) So.... before opening or tinkering. ;) @+++

This post is to warmly thank the members of this forum who helped me solve my CPL problem.
1) Back from vacation, one of the boxes no longer wants to turn on the Ethernet light.
2) I find a nice forum with knowledgeable members eager to share their knowledge.
3) I buy a pack of 50 capacitors (16v instead of 10v) on eBay for almost nothing.
4) The envelope arrives from China with free shipping by air.
5) I replace the 8.
6) I connect it and it works!
7) I LOVE YOU, without you the 2 boxes would have ended up in the trash.

Hello, I had the same problem as some of you with one of my 2 LEA powerline adapters. After opening the case, it turned out that 2 out of the 4 capacitors were indeed swollen. Lacking the necessary equipment and skills to replace them, I took them to a TV repairman who agreed to change them for a low price. Everything works now as before. Thanks to the users of the various forums who helped me identify the problem and avoid buying a new powerline kit (grenouille, aduf, and how it works).

I also have two powerline adapters, one of which breaks down. I got them on 06/13/07 and it failed on 04/26/08 with the data and Ethernet lights off. I sent them back to the company CBS who exchanged them for me. I received the new ones on 05/02/08 and on 11/06/2009 they broke down again. These adapters are of very poor quality. While browsing this forum and reading the experiences of others, I opened my adapter and found two bulging capacitors. I found a good supplier in Paris and bought 10 capacitors rated at 470µF 16 volts instead of the 10 volts found in the adapter, which cost me 4 euros 50 cents. So, I replaced the two bulging ones and oops, it works again! I want to congratulate the person who provided the repair information; super cool!

Same problem as some: the 4 bulging capacitors, on the other hand, I’m recovering capacitors from an old motherboard, 820uF 6.3V (that’s what I found that’s closest)...

I can't manage to sync my new powerline adapter. The others had no buttons and synced automatically, but this one doesn't sync automatically. Do the powerline adapters need to be from the same brand? How do I sync them if the others don't have buttons?  I really need your help!!!  Thank you in advance!!!

I also have a problem; the DATA light is off while the POWER and ETHERNET lights are on the starting box. At the arriving box, only the POWER light is on, while the DATA light is blinking and the ETHERNET light is completely off. My computer detects this issue as a cable being disconnected. What should I do?

Thank you, it partially solved the problem, because as soon as I use the powerline adapters between two sockets that are too far apart, only one receives. I think another component might be affected :(  I think the affected component could be related to the weakened signal transmission   Can you help me?

me too victim of this issue... complain to Free and LEA (support-PLC@leacom.fr) it's a manufacturing defect that should be covered even out of warranty on top of that, it's dangerous, risk of leakage, fire or explosion!

Hello, You electronic whizzes are adorable! It is im-pos-si-ble to change those capacitors with their tiny little legs without having real soldering skills and good knowledge of electronics. All the lucky ones from this forum who have changed those famous capacitors and for whom it worked definitely have some serious luck! So I bought those famous capacitors and found someone to install them (15€ for the labor and 4.50€ for the parts, not to mention the time spent finding them, going there - for nothing - etc...: A NIGHTMARE!) and ... it still doesn't work! Conclusion: forget Léa, it's rubbish!
