Hello,
I would like to know what it means when I want to buy a RAM stick and it says with or without heat spreaders.
Can you explain the differences between the two and what CL2.5 or CL3 means??
Thank you in advance.

Hello, buffered (or registered) memory includes an additional module on the stick, connected between the RAM and the PC memory controller,
it is mainly used to have a more stable system, and is generally used by professional machines, like servers.
Similarly, ECC (Error Correcting Code) memory, which corrects errors, is for servers.
In any case, it is specified in the motherboard specifications which type of memory it accepts, but generally, for consumer PCs, you need unbuffered and non-ECC sticks.
The CL, or CAS Latency, corresponds to the first timing of the RAM, the lower it is, the better it is.
Have a good day!
