Unable to use the duplication buffer

Well, since you're obviously the guy who likes to keep secrets, we also don't know what version of Photoshop you have, so I'll tell you: on mine, just above my tools, there's a little triangle (it's small), and if you hover your mouse over this triangle, it offers you either to reset THIS tool or to reset ALL the tools.
There you go, it's certainly still a dumb answer but it's the only one I have in my bag.

I have CS3 so I don't have the little triangle! lol
And so far I can't find any solution other than reinstalling the operating system and reinstalling PS!
And all of this because of the buffer lol!!!!!!!!

You don't need to reinstall the OS if it doesn't work: you uninstall Photoshop with this utility called Revo, and if you know how to do it, you can do a little registry cleanup with this one https://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Utilitaire/systeme/fiches/29399.html and then reinstall Photoshop cleanly, no need to format and reinstall your XP for that....

I had the same problem; I searched for two weeks
my neighbor told me maybe your mouse was the issue...
So I changed it, and it works, alt + click.

After several hours of intensive research, I finally found the solution for my setup.
In my case, I am on a Linux (Ubuntu) machine and I am using VirtualBox to have a Windows machine with Photoshop.
The issue with the duplicate buffer was also occurring even though it was not a usage problem. It’s a conflict with the Alt + Click key in GNOME. To fix it, simply install the dconf tools (sudo apt-get install dconf-tools) and then go to org > gnome > desktop > wm > preferences. Replace the mouse-button-modifier option with whatever you want EXCEPT something empty (which would mean that all clicks move the windows instead of disabling the option).
It can also be done via the command line by installing dconf-editor and then using this command:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences mouse-button-modifier "<Super>"

My response to you is that I am not stupid at all! Because I've been dealing with this for almost 5 years, and I know this thing well, so if I'm posting this problem, it's because I've tried everything and I currently can't find any solution. I even reinstalled it and it still doesn't work! The same problem with the correction tool since it does nearly the same job!
A more intelligent response, please.
