Hello, I installed Photoshop a little while ago and it removed the right-click function, new/bitmap image.
I used this function quite often and now I only have the option to create Photoshop images which I don't master yet.

If you could guide me on how to get back my create a new bitmap image function that would be very nice.
Thank you.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.12

When I right-clicked to edit, Paint used to open (now it's Photoshop), but I right-click to open with Paint or Photofiltre to modify them.
Otherwise, to view them, I used Xnview.

What I really want is to get back my right-click function to create a new bitmap image.

    You open the file explorer

You click on the "File Types" tab

In the list, you search for the "BMP" extension

In the "Details regarding the BMP extension" box, you click on Modify

A new window opens where you should see "PAINT"

Select "PAINT" and click OK everywhere.

    It should be fine.

    It's Windows Explorer

The thing you use to search for files on your computer

    You do

    Start

    Run

and then you type explorer and hit enter.

    Okay, I followed the instructions.
But that's not what I want.
What I would like is to get back the option to create a BMP file, for example on the desktop, in my right-click menu.
Now I no longer have this choice, and yet in Tweak UI, BMP is checked.
The only images I can create from the right-click are Photoshop .psd images.

      Ok. Understood

I’m at the same point as you. I know where it happens in the registry but I don’t know how to do it because apparently the key to create contains code.

I have the same entries as you. If I disable PSP, it doesn’t restore BMP for me.

So, I don’t know how to do it.

Yes, I also went to check in the registry, I found the bmp folder and I can see the toshop key at the top by default.
I don’t really know what to do, if anyone has any ideas, that would be really cool.

    Hey!

In my case, the ShellNew key (in .bmp) still exists, that's what I don't really understand.

In the 'new' menu, I was offered a Photoshop file (can't remember the extension) which I removed from the registry.

So now, I have neither the Photoshop shortcut nor my good old 'new bitmap image' (just to remind you, I do have the ShellNew key).

    Any ideas?

      Hello
given your link, apparently it would concern only Seven, but unless I’m mistaken, it restores the default file associations, nowhere does it specify that it allows creating a new file command with Paint, which was the subject of this topic.

Please specify if you have a new BMP file with Paint,

if you have the ShellNew key, right-click in the right window, new, string value.

      3) Open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellNew.
      4) Create a string value named Command
      5) Edit this entry and enter, as value data, the name and location of the executable file that launches Paint.

To find the name and location of Paint, right-click on the shortcut, properties, find target

but if your solution works with XP, then it would indeed be simpler.
