For an Ebook, it is often necessary to create a lightweight document, and the simplest way is of course to reduce the definition of images and compress them as much as possible...

To avoid losing too much quality, I think it's important to process the images before using them. Screen display is generally done at a resolution of 88 to 96 dpi (higher with Retina screens). So, incorporate your images with these settings and at the final size (so that you don’t have to reduce their physical size on the page).
Since it’s for screen display, your images can be in RGB or grayscale.

By using these parameters, you will already save weight for your file. But there is a limit below which nothing more is possible...

Strangely, I've received contradictory opinions on this matter.. I tried converting them after saving with GIMP at a resolution of 96 dpi and then at 300 dpi, but on screen the result remains the same
I feel like with the conversion to PDF, all the flaws that were barely visible in Open Office start appearing...
but I'll try reducing the size; after all, what I could do is rework them in Paint to remove as many flaws as possible.

I finally managed to get Pdf Creator to work, so it's curious because I feel like it all depends on what you use to view the PDF file... With PDF Architect the result is more or less correct, whereas with Microsoft Edge it looks very ugly.
