Error in Winword.exe

You delete the normal.dot file (it's a hidden file) and you run winword /a that will fix the issue.

This comes from the normal.dot file, you need to check that you only have one copy of it. This issue is resolved, but I don’t remember the details.

Glad to know your issue is resolved.
If Word frequently displays messages with the normal .dot file (already used, etc.), you need to rename the files for example to "normalbis.dot" so that the message no longer appears
and then delete any unnecessary files.

They tell me to report this problem to Microsoft.

Thank you very much, I indeed deleted all the normal.dot files, I had four of them, and it works perfectly.
Note: I found the normal.dot files by going to Start, then searching for files, I didn't do anything else.

I have a Windows tablet edition with Visio 2002 Standard.
But here's the problem. When I modify a wall's width, the system returns a 10009 (DCOM) error on the MSCTF.dll.
I'm logged in as admin, MSN is deactivated and there are no known viruses.

This is a big issue because when it crashes, everything closes without confirmation and the work in progress is lost.

I found the normal.dot file, renamed it, and restarted Word. My options (toolbars) have disappeared, which is a good sign that I've returned to the default program.
However, I still continue to receive an error message.
The message appears when I go to Insert->Special Characters.
What should I do now, can someone help me?

I don't have exactly the same problem but it's similar.
When I open Word, at the moment the assistant appears (by itself) an error message displays: "this program will be stopped because it has performed an invalid operation" and when I click on Details "WINWORD has caused a general protection fault in module CM8330.DRV..."
I tried restarting the computer, without an internet connection; nothing works, the same problem persists.
And I have exactly the same problem with Excel.
I think the two are related because everything was working perfectly well yesterday (but I didn't have the assistant).
This is Word 97 and Excel 97.
What should I do?

Still not solved the problem, I had to reinstall Windows on another partition and reinstall Word...

But my problem still persists and moreover only on this specific document. This doc contains images and charts, but until now, I had no issues. I go to Insert > Special Characters, and it crashes. It's very annoying.
I was told to change the normal.dot file, but no, that's not it. The problem persists. And no one has been able to answer this issue on other forums.
The reinstallation didn't work either.
