Hello, I broke my MacBook screen and I want to connect an external monitor using a VGA adapter. When I make the connection, nothing shows up on the external screen. Can you help me? I have an iMac with a dead screen, I wanted to connect an external monitor to it, but it was in extended mode, while I wanted mirror mode. I just managed to do it by pressing Cmd + F1.
So thanks to ezafg for saving me from a sleepless night over this, and to you, go review your Mac manual and especially your manners.

I might be saying something incredibly silly, but just in case, try using the key combination:
CMD + F1 or CMD + F2.
