SAMSUNG DVD-HD870 Region Unlock

Thank you, but this is indeed the method I used. Once the update was done, the player turned off but the disc did not eject. After ejecting the disc when I turned the player back on, I selected the language and entered the code. Since then, region 1 DVDs are being read. But I have a region 1 HD-DVD that is not recognized. Perhaps I should try the procedure again?

1. switch on with NO disc in
2. press repeat (the no disc sign DISAPPEARS) on the screen
3. press 57538 for r2 player
4. 2 appears in the top left
5. press 9
6. press power off

In principle, there is only this method. I'm trying again. If it still doesn't work, I'll change the DVD.

which version of Nero are you using? With version 8, I can't set a speed of x4, the minimum is x8.
As a result, when I burn the ISO file, I have the same problem as mentioned: my DVD player recognizes it as an audio file...

this method still works, I confirm. Well, I lost 3 CDs for that, but since it works now, it's not a big deal.
I confirm that the burning speed is really important, x4 or nothing at all.
I can't burn at x4 with Nero either, but with easy burning it took me 10 seconds. Plus, easy offers in its burning options "burn an ISO image" and it works like a charm.

Regarding the messages above about HD DVDs, I remind you that this player DOES NOT READ HD DVDs. It is called HD because it is compatible with an HD television via an HDMI connection.

Here is the exact method to region unlock the Samsung HD-870

- Go to the website http://www.samsung.com/pl/products/d.../dvd_hd870.asp and click the link at the bottom (Polish site),
- Download the zip file (approximately 12MB), it’s the second to last firmware before the one that blocks the region unlocking,
- Unzip the contents (one ISO file and one PDF file)
- Burn the ISO file to a CD using Nero, and definitely no more than 4x speed, otherwise it won’t work. TIP: Apparently some burning software prevents the Samsung player from reading the CD you will burn; with Nero there are no issues.
- Then insert the CD into the player: a screen will appear, select 'total' using the remote control arrows and confirm.
The update takes about 1 to 2 minutes. Once the CD has been read, it will automatically eject, then you need to remove it and close the tray (it closes by itself anyway), the player will churn a bit and turn off by itself.
- Once it’s off, turn on the player, if prompted, choose the language,
- Press the repeat button on the remote (the 'no disc' message disappears from the top left),
- Type 5 7 5 3 8, the number 2 will appear at the top left, then press the 9 button (multizone) and turn it off.

And there you go, the player is now ready to play all DVDs.
