Hello everyone,
I purchased an LG RHT 297 H four months ago along with SONY DVD+RW.
Initially, I was able to record from the hard drive onto the DVDs multiple times without any issues. However, for some time now, I haven't been able to format certain already used DVDs or even some that are still blank (it shows "unknown disc" or the player just spins without any action). There's also no way to format using the "settings" button. What's curious is that these DVDs were purchased at the same time, have been used very little, and are from the same brand, yet they don't function the same way.
Second issue: I can't play all VIDEO DVDs. Some movies won't play. Apparently, these are the ones that have the "cp copy protected macro vision" logo on the back of the box. Do you have the same problem?
Lastly, I would like some information regarding updates. The HDD starts every 6 hours for a few minutes and then turns off. In the manual, there is a section titled "network settings," but I can't find it in "settings" on the HDD. Could this be related to the fact that I can't pick up TNT yet? Can I obtain updates, and if so, how? Thank you for your answers.

Hello,
I have an LG RHT 297 home recorder, and the player broke down 15 months after purchase... I personally went for a standard exchange to limit the cost (which still ended up costing me around a hundred euros...). I obviously sent a letter to LG (it's really not normal for a player to fail after just 15 months... It's a well-mastered technology; we all have PCs, PlayStations, and others, and personally, this is the first time I've experienced such a failure).
LG responded with, "Sorry, but the warranty has expired."
After checking various forums, it appears that LG players/burners often have issues. Unfortunately, I hadn't consulted the web before buying...
So if my experience can help someone who has the presence of mind to read this post before making a purchase, it will be satisfying for me (because there's no reason for a poor little consumer like me to suffer without saying anything about the poor quality of Mr. LG's product, who isn't doing anything to fix things)
..LG can spend millions of euros on advertising; I will NEVER buy anything from them (and neither will my loved ones)!-
Hello Polaris,
I have the same model from LG and the burner has been acting up for a few weeks.
What is the model of the replacement burner for the original one?
Is there any issue with it being recognized by the RHT? Any steps to follow?
Thank you for your reply/answers
Eric- Hi,
I changed the drive to the one offered by https://www.sos-accessoire.com/, which is the site for LG spare parts. It cost me around a hundred euros.
ONLY NOW, IT'S STARTING TO MALFUNCTION AGAIN! I'M FED UP
I remind you that LG refused to cover the first breakdown, which occurred shortly after the warranty ended.
The connection of this drive doesn’t seem standard and is fragile (no connectors...). If anyone has a solution to install a standard burner...?
NEVER AGAIN will any LG products enter my home.... They are not reliable, the manual is incomprehensible, and using the DVD burner is not intuitive at all...
ANYWAY, STAY AWAY FROM LG.

Hello,
I have the same issue reading DVDs with my LG RHT 298H.
Many new DVDs cannot be read.
I received an error message once that said: "Playback impossible due to navigation error."
Have you resolved the problem? If not, I will have to return it, still under warranty...
Thank you for your responses.
Best regards. -
I have the same problem with the HDD that starts up every six hours or so in search of a certain software. I have the TNT working very well, but no pay channels (like Canal +). I assume the software being searched is linked to Canal +.
Have you found a solution to stop the HDD from starting up on its own every six hours? It's more than annoying.
Thank you

It comes from the built-in reader in the LG device, which is very, very fragile.
So I disassembled the device and replaced the DVD reader/recorder with another one from the market for around €25. The connections are standard. It requires a bit of DIY, but it's working very well now. Of course, the warranty is void. Be careful, this is for the model dbrh-197 because your model rht-297h seems to have non-standard connections. Check it out.-

Hello, I'm definitely not buying LG again; it's junk and the manual is incomprehensible. I have two problems with my LGRHT297H when recording a TV show: it doesn't start or it only records a small snippet. Sometimes during playback it freezes, and I have to rewind to the beginning two or three times to watch a complete show. Can you tell me why?
Thanks, and what should I do? -
Good evening, I saw that you changed the reader/burner of an LG RHT297H. I am experiencing the same issues, meaning I can no longer read DVDs or it is impossible to burn to DVDs. Can you tell me how you changed the reader and also the type of reader that can be purchased? I suppose you can use a PC drive. Do I need to change its firmware or not?
Thank you in advance. -

Good evening.
The topic dates back a few months but I am looking to replace the burner of my LG DBRH197. It is broken (warranty until January 09 ...). I have disassembled it and I saw that the connections were standard. The DIY part, I suppose, is to position the new one correctly (centered in front of the opening and at the right height?
Can it be replaced by any burner dedicated to a PC, are there any restrictions? Which brand did you take to replace the LG burner?
Is there any "software DIY" to make the machine recognize and control the new burner?
Thank you.
See you later.

I'm looking to update the divx codec on this model rht297
too bad there's nothing on the lg site and it's a shame that the device doesn't have an rj-45 port
works on ps3 in 2.70 -
Hello
same issue
even though the HDD and the drive of my 297h are working very well
the DVD recorder randomly recognizes blank DVDs whether they are - or + R
it formats, sometimes... but they are not recognized during copying
it's unfortunately a well-known story, see above!!!
I contacted LG who sent me back to Darty... who took it into account
despite the warranty being expired and the fact that my device was purchased elsewhere...
Return of the device expected by the end of August...
so waiting...
But my question is...
I disassembled the HDD to try to back it up through my computer
The disk, which is in IDE, is recognized by XP (message in the lower right and in the BIOS)
But not in Explorer or in My Computer... so no access...
I changed the jumpers, then the connection of the ribbon cable (this cable normally connects the DVD drive)
but it doesn't help... I suspect that the HDD's format is different
my computer is running XP2, HDD in SATA, DVD drive in IDE and burner in SATA
so how can I recover the video files and what format is used on the HDDs of recorders
thank you for your responses-
The toolbox to retrieve the recordings from the LG is there.
You need to remove the hard drive from the LG and connect it to the PC using an IDE/USB adapter.
Then you can use the program provided on this site:
Honestly, it’s more of a hassle than with a burner, but you retrieve everything at once.
Afterwards, you need a program to convert that to DVD format (VOB) or into Divx Direct.
The "+": you record everything in XP format so you get recordings in super high quality to edit. It saves you from having to cut up movies or shows and using DVD DL or DVD RW if you’ve already cut them.
I only do that until I find a burner to replace the original "dobe".

Hi,
Have you found a way to replace the original "piece of junk," I mean the burner?
One of the problems is the plastic cables clipped onto the circuit instead of standard wire cables with good old connectors...
My drive, which I already changed myself (100 €....), is starting to mess up in the same way... It reads DVDs when it feels like it... doesn't even recognize the DVDs THAT IT FORMAT ITSELF!!!!
A real PIECE OF CRAP!
LG= a bit too LIGHT
NEVER AGAIN AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED
Thanks -
Hello,
For my part, I have given up changing the burner.
I remove the hard drive and connect it with an IDE/USB adapter to my PC.
Then I use a program to copy/paste.
Aside from the disassembly/reassembly (10 screws), the copying takes less time than burning.
Plus, I now record in High Quality (you can't take that quality away from the "LéGer") and there's no more issues with large files exceeding the size of DVD DL or RW.
The program is: "from_hdd_lg_to_pc.exe" available at: http://ifndef.altervista.org/index_eng.html
As for unscrewing, since nothing is guaranteed with LG...

Good evening
I personally have this model of engraver: I had problems with this device 4 months after purchasing it at Leclerc. These devices are unreliable; I contacted the customer service of the parent company in Bordeaux, which is serious, but unfortunately, other malfunctions occurred after a few months. I also have the previous model and the same message: menu creation required: ;;;;;;;;;etc. Good luck. -
Hello,
I'm experiencing the same issue as you; I can no longer play commercially bought DVDs on my LG RHT 297 H. Ever since I played a DivX file, I've been unable to view purchased DVDs, but I can still watch recorded DVDs. Is this a settings issue? I went to home, disk settings, and modified PCB.
However, if I go to the computer with the DVD, it prompts me whether I want to play it from the beginning, and when I put it back in the LG player, some discs work, but others say unknown disc.
By the way, I recommend formatting your disc on a computer if you have one for your first issue.
Have you found a solution for your first problem? -
