Epson Perfection 1200 Photo Drivers, XP

I also have an Epson Perfection 1200 Photo scanner.
I just managed to get it to work on Windows XP AND on VISTA with the same driver, EPSON TWAIN 5.7f (French version) for the Epson Perfection 1250 model, found at the following address:

I tried other drivers, including those for the 1240 and 1250 supposedly compatible with Vista,
but this one is the only one that I managed to get working (although I've read in other topics that some had good results with drivers for Windows 2000).

There is therefore no reason why this driver shouldn't get your 1200 scanner, or other 1240U and 1250, working!

On XP, there are no special precautions to take. Just unzip the file epson5429eu(v5.7fr).exe and
double-click on Setup.exe to start the installation (scanner unplugged, of course).
I explain the procedure in detail a little further down for installing the driver on Vista.

I haven't tested everything, but it seems to be working correctly.
Even the "AutoScan" button (there's only one button on my model) works after installing version 4.2 of Presto! PageManager
(which was originally intended for Windows 98)!
Just install it in Compatibility mode with Windows 98.
On the CD, go to the sub-folder \pagemgr\French
and right-click on the Setup.exe file to access the "Compatibility" tab in the "Properties" and select "Windows 98".

Moreover, I believe that a few modifications in the registry would allow launching other applications instead of Presto! Pagemanager.
Because, once Presto! PageManager is installed, you can search for all occurrences of this program and replace the launch program path with your choice.
It looks like this:
C:\Program Files\NewSoft\PageManager\PRESTOPM.EXE /StiDevice:%1 /StiEvent:%2, C:\Program Files\NewSoft\PageManager\PRESTOPM.EXE /StiDevice:%1 /StiEvent:%2
I haven't tried it yet.

However, I am looking for a "more modern" version of Presto! PageManager, if someone is willing.
I saw that there is a version 7.1, probably more in the "look" of XP.

So, for the installation of the driver, particularly under Windows Vista 32-bits:
- Make sure the USB cable of the scanner is not connected to the computer.
- Unzip the file epson5429eu(v5.7fr).exe.
- In the resulting folder, right-click on the Setup.exe file and select the last option of the context menu, "Properties".
- In the window that opens, click on the second tab, "Compatibility".
- Under "Compatibility mode," check the box in front of "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
- and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" from the dropdown list below.
- Confirm the options and close the window by clicking "OK".
- Right-click again on the Setup.exe file and select the second option in the context menu,
"Run as Administrator," which will trigger the installation of the driver.
- After installation, you will be prompted to restart your computer.
- Once restarted, just turn on the scanner and connect the USB cable,
for Windows Vista to associate the previously installed TWAIN driver with the scanner it just detected.
- Vista will indicate that it cannot verify the driver. Respond with "Continue".
- Vista recognizes the scanner and adds it to the list of devices.

The scanner is ready!
