Unsolicited SMS from 36222 and 36888 Solved

Question

Hello,

For about a month now, I've been receiving texts (4 to 5 a day) from the numbers 36222 and 36888, inviting me to call a number starting with 0899 to meet up with a girl (I am a girl myself and not a lesbian).

I contacted ORANGE to block these numbers and they told me they couldn't do anything because the numbers are private? It seems to me that this is contrary to data protection laws! Especially since they didn't invent my mobile number?

I experience the same thing. And I think I've figured out why. Did you happen to use the SNCF service to book your tickets over the phone (at 3635)? One day, I messed up and dialed 3536, ended up on a dating service but hung up right away. Since then, I've been receiving texts (4 or 5 a day, it's very annoying!) from Cathy who is desperate to meet me in my city (what a coincidence)... Anyway, thanks for the solution. Hello, you send the stop to the number that sent you the SMS, not to the number provided in the SMS. Like the 4 or 5-digit numbers that send you this, reply to them and you will receive a confirmation of your unsubscription.

The STOP message works well, but it's still outrageous that you have to send a text to unsubscribe from a service you never subscribed to!   By the way, I have an Orange phone whose number I freely distribute, and I've never received anything on it, while another Virgin Mobile phone receives advertisements from several numbers, like 36888, even though I only use it for one or two phone calls a month and send texts to people I know.   I suspect Virgin Mobile or the mobile phone directory...

Personally, I think that the only defense is attack. If you send STOP, as some say, you feed the machine and encourage the SPAM (since it works, they just have to keep going). If you initiate legal proceedings, you will almost certainly lose (at least time). Moreover, for young people, it’s not easy. Hello, I’m following up on my post from “geff33 / Saturday, February 16, 2008.” I tested sending the word “stop” (to make sure I address the uppercase or lowercase issue, I sent it twice each time. Once in lowercase and once in uppercase). The texts came from the numbers 36222 and 36888. Result: I still received texts the next day, then nothing. Hello,  Some clarifications: - Sending STOP does not in any way feed any system (precisely!! the goal is to remove it)  It seems that this unscrupulous company: infomultimedia (or 123multimedia) has purchased a list of phone subscribers to conduct their push campaign (that's what it's called) in order to mislead the greatest number of people to collect funds through their premium rate number. As for where they might have gotten these lists (knowing that I have never participated in any SMS games nor downloaded ringtones, nor anything with my mobile, and that I haven't changed my number in 10 years now), it's a mystery. In some messages, they really treat people like fools, which is quite impressive.  In France, short numbers are generally 5 digits, as you can see in all the games and ads on TV for ringtone downloads or SMS voting. This is the case for 36222 and 36888, to which one can respond STOP to normally unsubscribe from the database we are in.  (In Belgium, it's 4 digits; in Switzerland, it's 3 digits; in Reunion, it's 4 digits) generally speaking.  However, recently it seems that this company has found a new way to deceive subscribers by using a 6-digit number: 270901. Therefore, in France, it is impossible for us to respond back and thus send a STOP.   Reminder: French operators require publishing companies to provide a non-premium response to the word "CONTACT" as well as "STOP" (at a minimum)  And now with their new 6-digit number, which must come from abroad (according to Orange technicians), we can no longer unsubscribe since we can no longer respond to them. Therefore, it is advisable to contact your operator so that they can contact the publishing company directly.  Unless you directly contact the publishing company if you know which one it is.   PS: I just received new ads or incentives with a short 3-digit number: 100 (but the STOP send worked)

I agree that this does not justify in any way the fact that we are being attacked like this as you say.  However, as I inaccurately mentioned above: Operators require publishers to have the keywords STOP and contact available, and this should not incur any extra charges (meaning that the only cost is the basic SMS rate from your operator) the publishing company does not earn anything from SMS containing STOP, CONTACT.  The point that needs to be raised as well is how they managed to obtain their list of mobile numbers, which company did we trust to give them our mobile phone number that allowed them to sell this list to the SMS publisher? This is what also needs to be found out, because even if indexmultimedia goes under, another will surely take its place.  Still receiving 7 SMS since last night... :(

I sent an email directly to the company, using the one provided by someone earlier (with a few modifications)  In the afternoon, I received a text from 38123 saying that I had been successfully removed from their database (I’m keeping it safe)   And I think I found the leak: real estate agencies where I recently signed up in search of an apartment.

How long ago did you send the message? There's a bit of a delay, and sometimes it can be two different organizations that sold their file, so two stop messages. Normally, it works...

Personally, I think you're all stupid for sending STOP because you're just feeding the coffers of these SPAMMERS. They will only stop sending you these SPAM for a little while and then they will start again until you give in once more by sending STOP. The best way to stop receiving this SPAM is to either consult a lawyer or for no one to respond to these SPAM. Consider this a wise warning.

I have the same problem, except that with my subscription, I can't send messages, so I can't send STOP. I don't know what to do; I receive at least 10 messages a day!! If anyone has a solution, thank you!!!!!

There's just one thing I don't understand,  given how long this scam has been around, how is it that the good cops who are supposed to protect the interests of honest people haven't shown up and shut down their company?  A company that is unscrupulous according to some.. a company that deserves to rot and be shut down immediately, responsible only for being liquidated with a bullet to the head, excommunicated... in the public square at 8 PM news.  It goes to show that in France, EVERYONE has the right to scam everyone without fearing the slightest reprisal..  Anyway, do like them, it’s lucrative and you risk nothing.  For the others, honest ones, well keep getting screwed without any lube.  PS STOP doesn't work....

I receive about 15 messages a day from 36222 and 36888. I send "stop" by SMS but nothing works, it doesn't stop. I went to file a complaint with the police and I have my complaint declaration. I have an appointment at the registry court to expedite the end of this harassment by the abuses at the commercial registry. I will tell you more when I have more information.  Gérard

Personally, it's 1 text per hour since this morning from 270901. I am keeping all the messages of course.

I also have the problem, and not responding seems like the best solution. Personally, I delete the text message right away. I get 2 to 3 messages like that per month. I thought I had vaguely heard that it's possible to get viruses on the phone... so deleting the message right away reduces the risk.

Bonjour Iona, j'ai eu ce souci et je m'en débarrasse vite. Tu fais répondre aux SMS et tu envoies "stop" tout simplement, et tu recevras un SMS te disant que tu ne recevras plus de SMS de notre part.

Bonjour, je vous informe que moi aussi je reçois des messages du 36222 ou 36888 ou 38123 et ça commence à me gonfler sérieusement. Orange dit ne rien pouvoir faire, donc pour faire bouger les choses, je compte déposer plainte auprès d'Orange, comme ça on verra s'ils ne peuvent vraiment rien faire.

Hi, I keep receiving more and more messages since I sent STOP. Every time it's okay, they tell me they won't send anything anymore and then bam, it’s another number sending me another SMS. I'm sure they have hundreds of different numbers, and we're basically screwed unless we keep sending STOP every time, which still costs the price of a SMS.

Bonjour à vous tous, si vous recevez des SMS de Karine au 36222 et 38123, ne répondez pas. Ses SMS vous demandent d'appeler le 0899700558 - 0899703611 - 0899700298 et 0899708035. Vous recevrez quand même ses messages vocaux, mais dans ses messages, elle nous demande d'envoyer des SMS comme RDV - MONTEL - ADRESSE - KARINE - 064525 - RUE au 84070. Vous ne recevrez jamais les réponses autrement qu'elle vous demande des rendez-vous; elle ne sera jamais là comme un coup qu'elle m'a fait. J'ai donné rendez-vous à un endroit à Lorient de 14h à 17h. La surprise, elle n'est pas là. À 18 heures, j'ai reçu un SMS de cette personne et elle me dit que ça fait 1 heure qu'elle attend; elle dit aussi qu'elle est dans un bar qui s'appelle Daddy. Ne cherchez pas, il n'existe pas. Tu fais des SMS au numéro 0899xxxxxx, là elle te répond : "Là je suis chez moi en train de m'habiller" ou "Je suis dans ma pharmacie qui est à la gare", ou encore elle te donne rendez-vous à un petit manège au centre-ville. Bon, j'y suis allé. La personne n'était pas là, sauf des enfants qui étaient dans le manège. J'envoie des SMS pour savoir où elle était. Le message qu'elle va envoyer : "J'essaie de pas rester trop longtemps à la gare, ma sœur est quichetière." Merci de votre compréhension et à bientôt. Surtout, messieurs, ne répondez pas à ces conneries.
