Hello,
Why do I only see "question marks" instead of "smileys" in the SMS I receive on my "Samsung AS52 5G"?

    Hello,

It's a pain, these smileys, people can't express themselves properly...

Smileys are media, not text, and therefore must go through RCS.

If it's not activated on the sender's side, there's no solution.

In Google Messages on your own phone, open the app and click on the Google account icon in the top right.

Go to Messages settings, RCS Chats, activate.

If the sender is using iOS, you also need to check "reactions on iPhone as emojis" in Advanced settings.

Of course, a 4G/5G data connection or Wi-Fi is required, the phone must support RCS, which is the case for most fairly recent models, and the feature may need to be activated by the carrier.

    Hello

Apparently, this concerns the Samsung Messages app.

But Samsung has discontinued its app and the one currently being used is Google's.

That's why Guy72 can't find the three dots.

      Indeed, that's it.

      But then what to do?

    Hello,

How to restore your smileys instead of question marks?

To fix the sending of smileys and prevent them from converting into question marks, you need to adjust the SMS settings in the Messages app (procedure for Samsung):

This can also happen on very old phones!

Totally agree, but having ?????? is annoying, I would rather have nothing at all or just writing.
It's no longer messages, it's just rebuses...
