My Norton antivirus is expiring. I've had issues with this antivirus.

What do you recommend?

This no longer guarantees security updates, like now Windows 10 outside of ESU, but it remains quite theoretical for healthy behavior.

Aside from this factor, for example, Comodo Internet Security exists in a free version whose antivirus, if an antivirus is of any use, continues to be updated but particularly its firewall and defense components are of interest.

        Hello Brucine, and everyone else,

I haven't used antivirus for a long time, except for VirusTotal occasionally.

For a virus scan that takes 3-5 minutes

If you have any questions, screenshots (in full-screen mode if possible)

What is essential is a Custom firewall, with a Very High alert frequency level, compared to Comodo, very useful and relevant for me, but only as a firewall, as always, and the latest version that doesn't bug, whose Offline installer is here, you just need to disable everything else during installation except the Firewall (Pare feu).

        Comodo Internet Security Premium 12.2.2.8012

Then I disable everything else except the firewall in Comodo.

Then NoScript on the browser to allow trusted scripts, blocking the others (by default), if you still have browsers compatible with Windows 7 and also with NoScript.

Otherwise, popular antivirus programs support or will support Windows 7 less and less.

A third-party firewall does not resolve vulnerabilities; we learn just as well that it is preferable to keep software up to date. Apart from the connection with the rest, everything follows the same principle for security reasons: to keep everything up to date, not just the firewall by replacing it with another.

However, what is the usefulness of a high level of security for an ordinary person? That is the real pertinent question.

No up-to-date security system on an operating system is resistant to human ineptitude, and the virus section of this forum reflects that every day.

Windows updates patch around 100 to 150 vulnerabilities every month, many of which cannot be intercepted by security software, which shows that they exist in the meantime. However, they are indeed exploited by deliberate attacks in certain contexts that do not target everyone.

Viruses don’t just fall from the sky; we clicked anywhere to go find them.

Formally, the firewall and defense system are also useless unless they intercept communications or the invocation of another executable once installed; the first can also be used for confidentiality purposes to prevent anything from connecting anywhere.
