To all those who have Avast and "have never had any viruses," try a test: uninstall it and install Antivir or others. Normally, if you didn't have a good firewall with Avast, you should find some nice infections.
Check out the very good article on Avast. Look at the number of infected people who ask for help while using Avast...
In fact, we should make a sticky post with the number of infections reported by antivirus on this forum ^^ People would better realize their current vulnerability with Avast the sieve.
Having 2 antivirus at the same time is the best way to block both and slow down your PC. -

And that's why it's better to avoid telling nonsense.
If 2 "compatible" antiviruses, as you say, won't block each other, they may cause problems because of their need to exclusively access certain files.
But you must be particularly skilled in IT because there are some real experts here, and everyone advises against using 2 antiviruses.

I've noticed a sort of anti-Avast cabal lately.
Following various messages I've received, I've decided to reopen this discussion to clarify certain points.
*** Critique: Look at Malekhal's test! Avast is worse.
I have already pointed out the issues with Malekhal's test.
If we want to take other independent tests, we can also take the one from av-comparatives.
What’s their conclusion? Avast is better than Antivir.
I am willing to read with interest the criticisms of Avast, but not based on a single and unique report, always the same.
PS: I have no shares in Alwil. CCM doesn't get anything either.
*** Critique: Antivir doesn't filter emails, but Avast's email filtering is useless.

And having helped quite a few friends and installed another antivirus instead (and not antivir), I know that it is not as good as you say...

PS: Your comparison dates back to 2007, the one from 2008 places both antiviruses at the lowest level. We also don't know what levels the tested malware are, their release dates, and how widespread they are.

You have Avast which handles viruses + spyware
Otherwise
AVG Free edition which handles viruses
And Avg antispyware but in demo version..
etc..
But no free option properly handles viruses + spyware + rootkits
The paid solution is Kaspersky antivirus -> 19 euros for 1 year on 2 to 3 devices! (let's say it’s a bargain)

No one in this topic has advised you, so far, to put 2 active antivirus programs on your PC, because let's not forget that if you intend to do so, it will create conflicts, resulting in no protection

For those who don't know me, I'm espion3004, a simple member on ccm, I did a comparison of Avast and Antivir here => Web3004
I’m not one of those big names in computing (seb, malekal, Atribune, !aur3n7 or balltrap34....)
But the comparison remains perplexing nonetheless regarding Avast 4.8?
I had Avast like everyone else, I had to throw away my laptop which is of no use anymore!
So I’m informing as best as I can about this antivirus!
Okay, then we can say that the best antivirus is the user, Kaspersky, Bit Defender, but that would be off-topic!
I did not mistreat Avast 4.8, just compared it to Antivir, my default antivirus...

Antivir finds more infected files.
- But what are the infected files (it would have been good to see the list, the detected signatures)?
- You assume that Antivir's results are accurate. What if there are false positives (av-comparatives, precisely, highlights this issue in Antivir)?
"162 infected files, versus 189 for Antivir!" And what accounts for these 27 differences? Are they really infected files? It would have been good to check these files on Virustotal.com.
- Then you test downloading a Trojan with Avast... but not with Antivir.
