Excellent article that explains extremely well what will happen after the 14th.
However, a big downside to the "so simple" solution of signing up for the ESU program. The problem is that, it seems to me, there are many of us for whom this registration is not yet available. On my PC, the Windows Update status still indicates that registration will soon be possible. Yet the prerequisites for ESU are met, but still nothing. The solutions to force registration are documented in multiple forums, but unfortunately ineffective for many of us.
Hence, I believe the general panic…
If you want to stay on Windows 10 (until October 13, 2026), there are sites that indicate how to proceed if the option to enroll in the ESU program does not appear in Windows Update (various reasons...). Search the internet. Various methods are suggested. For my part, I downloaded WindowsPCHealthCheckSetup.msi which checks if the PC is compatible to upgrade to Windows 11; if it isn't, there is a "sync" option (having a Microsoft account) that then allows access to the ESU program (this requires installing OneDrive).
Don't forget to make the necessary backups beforehand just in case.
Hello Sir, Madam
My two computers are 7 years old, i7 and i5, I'm no longer using Windows, I'm switching to Chrome or Linux
Such a waste
There's no need to panic, indeed; the average Joe who doesn't have much of interest on his W10 PC really has nothing to fear!
So let's calm down...
Thank you
Hello,
The hypothesis of a targeted attack on the average person is indeed unlikely, and in any case, when faced with someone "competent," there is no way to protect oneself.
The article discusses an attack that would not be targeted and could theoretically happen to anyone, but by that logic, it could also happen from the average of 150 vulnerabilities patched monthly by a Windows system continuing its updates within their timeframe.
The real danger is less about the hacker who falls off their boat than about the user who seeks trouble by clicking and downloading anything anywhere. However, as evidenced by the security section of this forum, the various security barriers are of little help.
Hello
The support for Microsoft's Defender antivirus will remain up to date until 2028. That’s good news.
