Hello,
My hard drive being dead, I ordered a new one that I will receive tomorrow.
So I’m wondering if I will be able to easily reinstall Windows 10 with the ISO downloaded using the MediaCreationTool that I put on a USB drive?
Or is it impossible because I will be asked for an activation key which I don’t have, of course.
My PC was running Windows 8 when I bought it, and I upgraded to Windows 10 in August.
Will it be recognized as an activated PC or will the hard drive change erase the proof?
Do I need to first reinstall Windows 8 (I created a USB recovery drive when I purchased it) and only then install Windows 10 or upgrade?
Thank you in advance and sorry if this is a bit confusing.
Configuration: iPhone / Chrome 45.0.2454.94

Good evening,
As long as W10 has already been activated on this PC, you can perfectly install W10 directly on this new hard drive; you just need to ignore the two requests for a license key, and it will still be activated.
During the upgrade, Microsoft records certain data from your PC, which allows for a fresh installation without having to use a license key.
