Adobe Acrobat: Sidebar Always Visible!

Solved

Hello; Does anyone know how to prevent the right sidebar (the "Bookmarks") in a PDF document from opening automatically every time the file is opened? Of course, there's that little cross at the top right to close it, but it would be so much more convenient if a command could... command it not to expand every time the file is opened. It's really annoying when, for example, you are viewing invoices (or other PDF documents), you position the PDF window on one half of the screen (to make comparisons or whatever), and that "..." bookmark panel obscures the various amounts you are trying to review! Thank you in advance.

Good evening, and thank you Brucine!

Issue R.E.S.O.L.V.E.D! (thanks to your attached link).

    How?

    - go to the registry editor by searching: "%windir%\regedit.exe"

    - navigate to: "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Acrobat.Document.DC\shell\Open\command"

    - the string to modify is: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" "%1"

(as a precaution, make a backup; right-click on the key, in the left tree view, 'Export', and save it).

    - replace it with: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" /A "navpanes=0" "%1"

    - once you paste this last command, you can close all the windows.

Now, all PDF files open without that damn side panel!...

    Thanks again!

    Hello,

There was no need to go into the registry!

Simply on the homepage: Menu > View > Show/Hide > Side Panels

    Click on Bookmarks

    ------------------

The left panel (tools) is less obvious to remove.

    Close this panel; then:

Go to Menu > Preferences > Documents

Uncheck all opening settings and check the last one (Remember last state etc)

    Confirm with OK.

What is well conceived is clearly said,
And the words to say it come easily.

Hello Pier10; of course I did it! That, and many other seemingly obvious commands to execute. But that didn't solve the problem (it doesn't hold); for proof, go check the forum linked by Brucine, and you'll see that I'm far from being the only one who's struggled for a long time with the commands you referred to. The only solution that worked was modifying a key in the registry editor. Thanks again Brucine (for the link), and to the user who shared this tip.

      Thank you for this clarification!
But you didn't say that you tried this solution. (Otherwise, I wouldn't have posted).
What is strange is that I have never had this bookmark display. However, I couldn't get rid of the tools pane.
The problem seems to be resolved now.

I would like to add that I very rarely use Acrobat Reader; I agree with brucine: it's a complicated system.

I prefer Foxit Reader, which has the same functionalities, and maybe a bit more.

Exactly, I didn't specify; my bad. But it's not for lack of trying all the menus, right-clicks, properties, preferences, etc. possible since an open page! .. But it wouldn't hold! Now, with the modified registry key, it's radical, it tackles the problem at the root. Other than that, I primarily use Acrobat 99% of the time just for simple file openings/closes (the remaining 1% is for a few rare comments added to files like manuals, technical booklets, or user guides, and a few rare administrative documents where I had to sign on pages); it's true that the tool is a complicated machine with all the possibilities it offers, but since I'm not using it, and now that my issue with the pane that kept popping up is resolved, it's all good!
