Connection issues with Wi-Fi 7 extenders

Hello,

I have a BBox Ultym wifi 7, the wifi is working fine. I go with my phone to the spot where I want to place a repeater, I do a speed test, and I get about 500 Mbps on my mobile phone.

So I turn on the repeater, it connects, the light is solid green, but if I stand next to the repeater and do a speed test, the connection fails.

Any idea?

Thanks

Hello,

the connection is failing...

Connection to what, the wifi network, the internet, speedtest? Does it work on CCM?

Have you tried disconnecting from the wifi network and reconnecting? Repeaters are not mesh wifi; we don't automatically switch to the best access point, as long as we don't lose the signal, we stay on the box.

And there we go, there you have it....

But dear me, how annoying the line spacing is!!

Hello and thanks for the reply,

Actually, I mistakenly thought that the wifi 7 extenders from the Ultym box worked like a mesh wifi system.

But anyway, here's what I tried... I went to the spot where I wanted to place an extender. With my mobile phone, I ran a speed test to check the wifi quality at that location, and I got a speed of about 500 Mbps. I thought it was a good spot to place an extender.

I then placed the extender there, turned it on, and waited for the light to become a steady green. Then I turned off the wifi on my phone and turned it back on to make sure my phone connected to the extender's wifi and not to my box. I ran another speed test, and speedtest wasn't even able to start a speed test; it couldn't connect to the internet.

So feeling defeated, what I did was use the powerline adapter I had in the kids' room to set up a Huawei wifi 6 router that I already had, in access point mode, and there the wifi works well. Well, it's only wifi 6, but that will be enough for them... especially since they will be limited by the powerline speed that caps at 90/100 Mbps...

I would have been tempted to use a wifi 7 mesh system, but when I saw the prices, I thought it wasn't worth it; it would surely be cheaper to run network cables to the rooms :)

It would be interesting to know what happens with this repeater; the situation is not normal.

Since you have a router, you should connect it via Ethernet instead of using powerline adapters, which are a waste.

It's true that Wi-Fi 7 mesh systems are still way too expensive; I'd say we need to wait two years for prices to become more reasonable, but Wi-Fi 6 is already very good.

My router is in the children's room where the wifi network doesn't reach, so I connected it in access point mode to the network via Powerline adapters to broadcast the wifi network (only 6 with this router) at the back of the apartment.

I've never had any luck with repeaters, luckily they were free :)

oh okay,

so the router is not where your repeater is, if I translate.

The issue would be that even with the repeater, this room is not covered, although you also say that right next to the repeater the internet connection is not good despite a correct wifi connection?

I renew: if you move your router/wifi access point via ethernet behind the repeater, is it better for mobiles when connecting to the router's wifi?
