For me, it’s directly in the screen’s settings that I have this. The buttons on the screen allow me to access the menu, and it’s in those options that it can be adjusted. Neither the card nor Windows are involved. Do you have this option?

Ouch! Alright, let's try by right-clicking on the desktop workspace, then Properties, Tab Settings, and then Advanced button. You should then have a series of tabs. The setting you’re looking for should be somewhere in there. I can make a guess, but I need the names of the tabs first.

Hey well, I looked into it and all that's interesting are the graphic properties of my card and the properties of my screen, and in the screen properties, it says that to disable/enable this option, I should click on control, alt, F11. But the problem is that, well, it works, it doesn't give me the issue anymore, but as soon as I close the window, my desktop changes its resolution to 800x600, and I can't change it with F11 but only in the resolution settings... is there something that can be done to prevent that??

I admit that I don't really understand the connection with the resolution change. Unless the setting you modified is related to the screen resolution. Normally, there’s no reason to change this resolution, except for certain games that only work under specific types of resolution. But I initially understood that it was a problem with the centering of the screen. However, after seeing your descriptions, I actually wonder if you want to avoid these screen resolution changes... In which case, it's almost impossible. And the bars must appear because you probably have a 16:9 screen and the display is set for 4:3. Am I completely wrong here?

Yes, I think that's it! I have a 16:9 screen but it appears as a 4:3, but it didn't used to be like that! It started with the update I did... But otherwise, if I uninstall the update, everything should go back to the way it was! Right? But I don't know how to do that.

Well, it all depends on the update. If it's a Windows Update, for example, it usually contains a bunch of patches at the same time. So, I wouldn't recommend removing it. Unless you’re talking about a graphics driver update, for instance. In that case, yes, it could have a direct connection. And you'd need to roll back using the previous driver. Which update are you talking about?

Of course! The default driver has very limited capabilities. That's why, after uninstalling this update, you should be able to revert to the previous driver using your restoration CD/DVD provided by the manufacturer.

You can also try restoring to a point before your installation of the update. Let me know if you want any clarifications.

Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System. Click on "System Protection" on the left. Then click the "System Restore..." button. If all the restore points do not appear, don’t forget to check the box "Show more restore points older than 5 days."

Select the one closest to your update, obviously prior to it.

Ah! It worked! I no longer have the black bars around the windows! But I still have one problem, I installed an update for Windows yesterday after the other update and I am no longer able to reinstall it with Windows Update!

I had exactly the same problem, blurry screen and black bars on the sides. For this, right-click --> display resolution --> advanced settings
you will then have several icons: card/screen/troubleshoot
click on screen and set the refresh rate to max.
Then do the same again right-click --> display resolution
and adjust the screen as you wish and there you go! :)
