Reset BIOS password on an HP EliteBook

Hello,
I bought this used HP EliteBook 840 G1 laptop a few years ago for my son.
I installed a Linux distribution and set up a dual boot with Windows. But now, it says "Boot device not found" at startup. I'd like to disable Secure Boot. For that, I need to access the BIOS. However, I don't know the password.
According to what I've read here, https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Lost-BIOS-password-Elitebook-840-G1/m-p/5670286#M92022, this is a professional machine and I would need a custom SMC to unlock it.
I contacted HP support via X, but they haven't replied. To make matters worse, to contact support through their website, I need to register with the laptop's serial number. But the number is not recognized during the registration process.
Has anyone experienced the same issue and found a solution?
Thank you.
Simon

Hello
What you refer to as the serial number is the product number.
In any case, to unlock access to the password, you need to go to an authorized HP service provider with proof of purchase so they can unlock it. In the case of a first-hand purchase, it is free; in this case, it's second-hand, and there will be a fee.
Other methods that allow bypassing the password security are not legally permitted and should not be shared here.
Thank you for the link.
In fact, I read on HP's website that they can help us reset the password, but we first need to register the product.
As for the serial number, the one I mentioned corresponds to the "serial number" that I can obtain at startup of the PC. Unfortunately, the labels are either not legible or do not correspond to the PC's SN, but to the battery's, for example.
Hello,
Yes, of course the link provided by MPMP10 answers the question you’re asking here on the CCM site... because there are rules you could have read before posting...
This PC has been sitting on the shelves for a long time, it's likely that the CMOS battery is dead... Replacing it with a new one might solve quite a few issues.
Normally these PCs only have one hard drive... which starts the PC... no need to enter the BIOS... and just in case, it scans the inputs...
You can try booting with a live CD or USB live containing a lightweight operating system, just to see if it works.
If this answers the question, have you read this passage?
<< Aside from that, no assistance can be provided to recover a password.
The requester may be acting in good faith (and their good faith is unprovable) but the solutions provided can then be misused for hacking! >>
I understand that you may not be able to help me directly with the password reset. But do you have any idea on how I can register on the HP website to contact their support?
The fact that it belongs to you cannot be verified here on the forum.
