Using an external display with your MacBook Pro

Hello,
Is it possible to connect an external monitor to a MacBook Pro and disable the MacBook Pro's screen so that the only screen used is the external monitor? This would effectively turn the MacBook Pro into a CPU. If this is possible, does the MacBook Pro necessarily need to be plugged in?

Hello,
It depends on the model of the MacBook Pro and the model of the screen.
For example:
- my M1 MacBook Air has USB-C ports
- my 27" external screen has a USB-C port, 2 USB-A ports, an HDMI port, etc...
If I connect my MacBook to the screen via an HDMI cable, it doesn't allow me to use my Mac the way you want to do it.
However, if I connect my MacBook to the screen via their USB-C ports, not only will the screen charge my MacBook's battery, but I can also close my Mac and only use the external screen. To avoid continuously charging the Mac, keeping it constantly at 100%, I use a small software that allows me to regulate the charging rate flexibly.
For that, I set my Mac's monitor mode so that it displays in mirror mode on the external screen.
And since I don't have access to my MacBook's trackpad, I use a third-party Bluetooth mouse or one of my old external Apple trackpads.
This is the perfect situation for me. The possibility to work both in desktop Mac mode and portable Mac mode.
Best regards.
